About The Tavern Gaming Cafe
The Tavern Gaming Cafe is a medieval fantasy cafe on London St in Basingstoke, built around board games, card games, tabletop role-playing and comics. Its hireable gaming library comes with accessories, and dedicated theme nights run alongside regular play. Dead of Winter is among the board games played, and video game consoles are available for anyone who prefers a screen. Tables come in various styles to suit what you want to do, and a lounge area sits alongside them. The kitchen serves pizza, including a vegan pizza, and a burger. Drinks include a wide cocktail selection, local beers, ciders and meads, and coffee. The space can also be hired for events, with a TV for plugging in a laptop.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly staff come up in nearly every review, from servers whose smiles reviewers say sell the place to a team that helped plan a birthday party and a work event. Games are the next draw, with a very wide selection and consoles, and one visitor singles out Dead of Winter. Cocktails are described as wide in choice and delicious, and food earns good marks for a decent burger, fresh rather than freezer pizza, and a new vegan pizza. Hirers also mention a TV for plugging in a laptop and wifi. The recurring caveat is value on food. One parent who came with a partner and toddler found a small, thin chicken burger with nacho cheese and curly fries poor for the price, and a butterbeer turned out to be two cans of cream soda, so they would not return to eat. Another group, stuck in a hot room during a heatwave, were handed free ice pops and given passes to come back and play.

“I booked The Tavern for my husband's 40th birthday, and they did not disappoint. I started with a venue and a vision, and owner (Martin) not only realised that vision, but continually improved upon it. Martin and I met multiple times in the run up to the party, to ensure that everything was in place, and to add new ideas; no detail was overlooked. The food was delicious, and everybody was well catered for. In addition, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The Tavern is such a unique venue - one which he have visited many times over the years - and it has been wonderful to see how far it has come. Martin and his team have done such a fantastic job of making it what it is today. Thank you all so much. P.S. the toilets were super clean and beautifully decorated!”

“Went here with some friends for a day of board games. Good selection of games and friendly staff. We went during the heatwave so it was really hot inside and the staff handed out free ice pops. Good price for a table and we were given passes to come back again to play games! Good find in Basingstoke and will return”
