About Old George (Town Hall)
Old George (Town Hall) is a coffee shop in Barnsley, set inside the large civic building by the museum. The coffee comes as cappuccino with coffee art, and the drinks list also has chai latte and artisan teas served by the pot. On the food side, the counter offers sourdough toast, toasties and sandwiches, with a soup and sandwich combo for a fuller plate. Cake and brownies sit alongside the hot drinks. The cafe opens Monday to Friday, daytime only, and stays closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Coffee is the main draw at this café inside the town hall. Reviewers praise a smooth cappuccino without the bitter taste they find elsewhere, along with coffee art and a chai latté. Food comes close behind. Diners single out a thick soup paired with a creamy chicken and bacon sandwich, toasties, splendid cake, brownies described as divine, and a breakfast where the sausage stands out. One reviewer describes eggs cooked to perfection with crumbly feta. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and reviewers describe the room as cozy, bright, and clean, with some nice views through the window. The one sharply negative account concerns a cheese toastie on sourdough. The bread was too hard, the edges had to be cut off, and two diners found it tasteless. That reviewer also found no atmosphere and thought the bill for a pot of tea and a toastie was steep. A couple of regulars use it as their meetup spot with friends, ordering morning coffee with sourdough toast and a toasted teacake.

“Ordered a pot of tea and cheese toastie on sourbread and it came to £9.40. I thought I was back in London or Cheltenham. Average prices are £7.00 down there ! Friend complained to me that the bread was too hard and had to cut the edges off. We both commented that it was tasteless. As for the atmosphere, there was none. I would recommend The Joseph Bramah for unlimited coffee or English breakfast tea for £1.25 and Eggs Benedict £4.50 or Mushroom Benedict £4.50.”
