Customer Review Summary

Breakfast draws the most praise, from a full English and a bacon and halloumi bun to a vegan breakfast, and reviewers also value the separate gluten free and dairy free menus. Coffee comes close behind, described as delicious and one of the best a visitor had had, while the sweet counter's dark chocolate brownies, chocolate chunk cookies and home made cakes get their own mentions. Lamb kofta flatbread is singled out for flavour by one diner. The main complaint is portion size against price: the vegan breakfast and the hummus and lamb kofte flatbread were called small, and one reviewer was charged extra for a flatbread that wasn't properly cooked to go with hummus and pate. Food also arrived later than quoted for one table, and another reviewer describes wrong drinks put down hard on the table with no apology. Staff are otherwise called friendly and welcoming, dogs are welcomed, and a corner with toys and books for children gets noted. One diner was surprised to get tap water served with pomegranate.

“Really disappointing experience in what looks like a lovely cafe. First let me say most of the staff were lovely, but we were told there would be a 20min wait for food that eventually arrived 35 mins later! Our main gripe however were the portion sizes which were tiny given the price - the hummus and lamb kofte flatbread were particularly small. And who serves hummus and pate without bread! We had to pay £4.20 extra for a tiny flatbread that wasn’t properly cooked.”

“Wow! The best breakfast we have ever had. Service was quick, the food absolutely delicious and presented beautifully, and the atmosphere was lovely with gentle jazz playing at just the right volume. We will be back!”

“Great little cafe. Delicious food, great service from friendly staff. My only complaint was the portions, particularly the vegan breakfast, were a little small for the price. But otherwise fabulous.”

“My son and I are regulars here and have been visiting this wonderful eatery for the last 18 months approximately. We normally come on a Saturday but we came one Wednesday and it was as busy that day too! It’s a very popular place and we sometimes reserve a table. The food is delicious and good sized portions, we usually opt for 3 small plates each. At the end of March my husband visited with us for the first time and he thoroughly enjoyed the full English! As we are both vegetarians, it’s very important to us to find an eatery that has more than just one veggie option on the menu so at Cornerstone we are spoilt for choice! There is a plentiful breakfast and lunch menu both for vegetarians and meat eaters and there are also plenty of gluten free options. An absolute must is to treat yourself to a sweet treat from the sweet counter, either to enjoy after your meal or to takeaway, I particular enjoy the dark chocolate brownies and chocolate chunk cookies. Service is swift but sometimes there is a small wait on orders which is understandable as all food is prepared fresh to order, it is definitely well worth the wait! On one occasion we were brought the wrong drinks and no apology was made, instead the glasses and drinks we ordered were slammed down on the table which shocked my son and I, we thought we were going to be covered in coke. Not forgetting drinks - there are plenty of hot and cold drinks on offer from tea and coffee to iced drinks and soft drinks with decaf also available. All you have to do is take a seat, be spoilt for choice with the menu, note your table number and order at the counter. This really is an absolute gem in Ashbourne and we look forward to many more visits!”

“I was wandering around looking for somewhere to go for a bite later and thought this looked promising. I returned later with a guest. We were both impressed by the menu. The staff were all young, friendly and positive. We both had a bacon and halumi bun. Superb - but the food being brought out to other customers also looked very tempting. We will certainly be back.”
