Esquires Coffee Ambleside is a coffee shop and cafe at 14 Market Cross in Ambleside, where the breakfast is build-your-own and customers pick the items they want. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split on breakfast but agree on the coffee, with one calling it well poured bean to cup with a good crema and another comparing it to Australian coffee. Coffee and cakes also get a nod from a repeat visitor. Complaints centre on breakfast: a bland sausage, rubbery scrambled egg, food described as straight from the freezer, slow service and drinks that had to be asked for twice.

“Terrible service in this place. Went for breakfast. Overpriced for what you got. Food was served quick enough but had to ask twice where our drinks were to which the staff were quite rude. Wouldn't recommend.”

“Been here a few times during our stay in Ambleside and coffee and cakes were good. The quality of the ingredients of the breakfast let it down - the sausage was a little bland and the scrambled egg was rubbery. Being able to build your own breakfast seems a great idea, they you end up spending £25 on a breakfast.”

“Absolutely terrible service. This is one of those places which opens doors at 08:00, but only really starts “serving “ people at 09:00.. we stopped by at 08:15, told to find a table and them promptly ignored for 15min.. when we stood up to leave the staff just watched us walk out.. not interested.. I guess that’s the benefit of have a place on the high street.. no need to offer any service.. Your time and money would be better spent elsewhere.”

“45 minutes. For breakfast. I genuinely don’t know how you can take 45 minutes to serve breakfast, especially when what eventually arrives tastes like it was thrown together as an afterthought. The food was shite, the wait was ridiculous, and by the time it finally arrived I’d completely lost the appetite I came in with. Nothing about the experience justified the wait. If you’re going to charge people £25 for breakfast, may I add, the bare minimum is getting the food out in a reasonable amount of time and making it actually worth eating. This place managed neither. Absolutely wouldn’t come back, and I’d honestly recommend going somewhere else unless you fancy wasting nearly an hour waiting for a mediocre breakfast that sets you back an arm and a leg”

“Best coffee we have had travelling up from London. Like Australian coffee!”
