About The Pit Room

The Pit Room is a Central Texas-style barbecue restaurant in Houston, at 1201 Richmond Ave, serving brisket, ribs, and tacos inside a rustic-casual space with a patio. The menu spans mains in a broad range, mixing smoked meats with tacos, desserts, beer, and wine, so the format works for a full meal or a shorter food-and-drink stop. Beef Ribs Pork Ribs Brisket Potatoe Salad Green Beans is the most popular main, anchoring the barbecue side, while Chicken Tacos and Seasoned Crawfish offer options beyond traditional smoked plates. The patio extends the dining space outdoors, and the casual setup keeps the focus on the food and drinks rather than a formal table service pace.

Customer Review Summary

Brisket anchors the draw at The Pit Room, with reviewers repeatedly calling out its tenderness, smoke level, and bark, alongside ribs and jalapeño sausage as core favorites. Breakfast tacos, especially brisket tacos, and the free pickled vegetables bar come up often as standout specifics, and the outdoor seating area next to the bar gets consistent praise for its lively, relaxed atmosphere. Several note that lines can wrap around the building at peak times, though most say the food is worth the wait. On the recurring downside, a handful of reviewers describe meat that arrived lukewarm or slightly dried out, and a few single out dry turkey or underwhelming mac and cheese, with one noting a restroom that needed attention. Staff are frequently described as friendly and welcoming, though one reviewer found the cashiers a bit impatient.

This was my first time visiting The Pit Room. I was not impressed, especially after paying almost $30 per person (we only drank water) …

In town for work and stopped in to pick up my online order. I smelled the place before I saw it, if that doesn’t say enough. The atmosphere was awesome! It tethered the line between a BBQ Pit restaurant and a sports bar, without leaning …

A great BBQ spot in central Houston. I visited around 3pm it was not too busy. They have a really nice outside area that joins to the Pit Room Bar area. There was little to no queue inside and the server was happy to talk me through the …

Ordered take out and the food didn't disappoint! Three meat combo and got the brisket/pulled pork/chicken w/ mac/greenbeans. Brisket I wish I got more of the fatty part but still moist and flavorful. Pork had a slight sweet taste and no flaws with the smoked chicken. Sides are decent, complimented the bbq well. 2nd time I ordered ribs for 3 meat plate and surprised you only get 1 rib, never seen that before at bbq restaurant.

It was so good that it soothed my soul and made me blissfully happy. I had to try all so I got 4 meats and then got crawfish from the bar next door. The line was around the corner of the building when I was eating (luckily when I arrived not that long) but I still waited about 30min to order.) WAS WORTH THE WAIT! And the atmosphere in the bar next door was friendly lively and joyful. As a tourist here, it was all that I needed.
