About Stumptown Coffee Roasters
Stumptown Coffee Roasters is a roaster-forward coffee bar in Portland, OR, at 128 SW 3rd Ave, serving house-roasted direct-trade coffee alongside brewing gear and whole beans. Much of its identity comes from controlling the process at the roasting stage, with a coffee bar chain format built around its own beans rather than sourcing from outside roasters. The signature drink is Stumptown Coffee, and the menu also features a Hazelnut Latte and a Cup, all anchored by the brand's direct-trade sourcing model. The space supports both on-site visits and takeaway orders, with mains priced in the four-to-seven-dollar range and a total of 29 items on offer. Brewing gear and whole beans are available for customers who want to prepare Stumptown Coffee at home, extending the roaster's reach beyond the counter.

Customer Review Summary
Diners consistently highlight the coffee itself as the standout, with reviewers calling the espresso bold yet smooth and singling out the seasonal pumpkin spice latte, rose gold latte, and hazelnut latte as favorites. The spacious interior, cool art, and the distinctive snake table draw positive mentions, and several reviewers note the presence of a security guard at the door as reassuring given the downtown setting. A recurring complaint across multiple reviews is long lines and understaffing, with one reviewer describing waiting outside before being let in and still queuing. Food receives mixed feedback: a brioche cinnamon roll was described as pretty dry, and a sausage roll surprised a diner with unlisted jalapeños. One reviewer reported a sharply negative interaction with a barista, describing the staff member as impatient and dismissive when asked about milk alternatives, which left them feeling unwelcome and unable to order. Free street parking on Sunday mornings is noted as a convenience by one reviewer.

“Rose gold latte was good ($8 for 16oz). Love the cups. The cafe is spacious and has cool art. The snake table really surprised me.”

“Perfect latte! 10/10. Smooth, rich, and flavorful. Worth the wait in line. Friendly staff! Loved the security guard who posed for the picture 😄 …”

“First time here, the cafe is very cute and relaxing. Good amount of seating and space, clean tables, nice customer service. There was a security guard at the door which is a nice plus. I got a cold brew and a brioche cinnamon roll, unfortunately it was pretty dry so I just ate the top half.”

“I visited this coffee shop quite a while ago. It had a wonderful atmosphere, and I was very satisfied. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming, which made me happy. It's a place I'd like to visit again someday. Thank you for the delicious coffee.✨😊☕️”

“I didn’t feel welcomed at all at this location. My first time here was yesterday afternoon, meeting up with a friend for catching up. I didn’t fully understand the menu & was looking for a mocha or latte. I’ve been getting coffee for many years & always had whip added. I guess it’s some Portland thing because this is the 2nd place that doesn’t offer it. I didn’t understand. Anyway, the barista wasn’t very patient nor did he bother to offer any suggestions (I’d ordered a hazelnut mocha because I couldn’t think of anything else). Anyway, he started the coffee & asked if I was ok with oat milk and I asked if regular milk was available. He said “you mean dairy?” like he was disgusted with me. I’m autistic & oat milk has an awful taste/texture I am unable to tolerate. By then I was so nervous & anxious I decided to not have the coffee and chose a canned nitro (it’s the creamy type texture I love) and he waved me off and said “just take it!” I put it back and went over to sit & visit with my friend who seemed surprised at his behavior. I only stayed because she was already set up there but I was unable to have any food/drink at this visit because he was such a rude jerk. I don’t expect a lot but being patient and helpful go a long way. I definitely wasn’t trying to ruin his day or anything. But he’s definitely not a safe person for women, newcomers, or people with disabilities, in my experience. I’ve never had this kind of experience getting coffee. I love Stumptown coffee but I guess I’ll have to have it at home. I don’t get to socialize often and it’s really disappointing to feel so unwelcome.”
