About Mojo Coffee

Mojo Coffee is a New Zealand-style espresso bar, roastery, and brunch spot in Chicago, serving comfort dishes and pastries from a bright outpost at 200 S Wacker Dr #3100. Much of its identity comes from a coffee program built around New Zealand-style espresso, paired with a food menu of comfort dishes and pastries that suit both quick breaks and longer brunch visits. The Latte with Latte Art and the Cortado anchor the espresso side, while the Smashed Avocado & Feta with House-Made Chili Oil Served on Toasted Five-Grain offers a composed brunch plate with a distinct chili-oil finish. Seating and service support laptop work and casual meals, making the space practical for weekday coffee as well as weekend brunch. The location on the 3100 level places it within a larger building setting rather than a street-level storefront.

Customer Review Summary

Diners consistently praise the coffee as a standout, with several describing it as excellent and one calling an Australian cappuccino a long-standing favorite. The avocado toast earns repeated praise as the best one reviewer has had in Chicago, perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented, while the ham and cheese croissant, banana and blueberry bread, and a sandwich of the day also draw compliments. Most note the friendly, welcoming staff and a mix of indoor and outdoor seating that works well for remote work or quick breakfasts. A recurring complaint centers on steep prices, with one reviewer calculating a breakfast for two with coffees and a muffin and another questioning whether smoked salmon on rye was worth its cost. Several suggest the tipping prompt at the counter feels uncomfortable, particularly for visitors unfamiliar with the practice at coffee shops.

Stopped in before walking the river. Good coffee! Nice vegetarian options too. Took a second coffee to go..

Lovely staff! The menu is pretty minimal and basic, but still tasty. The banana & blueberry bread was spot on. They offer WiFi and there’s plenty of single and group seating options, as well as outside seating.

We hadn’t planned to have breakfast at Mojo Coffee, but we happened to be nearby and went for convenience. On the plus side, the food was good and the coffee was nice. The atmosphere was also fine. The price though I would say was on the steep side – $42 with tip for two breakfast bowls, 2 coffees and a muffin. We had something similar in another cafe a couple of days prior for quite a bit less. Then there’s the tipping in coffee shops thing. Not being from the US this was new to me, and the last time I was here it wasn’t a thing. Restaurants, yes. Coffee shops, no, because I’m more than happy to get my purchase from the counter myself and I don’t think a 20% tip is justifiable. Yes, you can select your own amount, but you feel obligated when a staff member is standing over you. I guess this wouldn’t be such an issue if staff were paid a proper wage to begin with, and it wasn’t left to customers to supplement their wages. Anyway, that aspect aside, we enjoyed our food but given the price and the tipping culture it’s a one off.

What a cute coffee spot! It’s on the first floor of an office building, so plenty of people meeting for quick business discussions, people working remotely, etc. There is free wifi available. The staff is friendly and provided great recommendations! Smoked salmon on rye was delicious, but not sure it was $12 worthy. Surprisingly, the pear, pineapple, spirulina (with mint, apple juice, and cucumber) smoothie was only $8 and pretty good tasting like green apple candy.
