About New Main Moon

On Barnabas Rd in Newtown, New Main Moon is a Chinese restaurant set up for takeout only, with no delivery offered. Orders are placed at the front register, where the owner's daughter takes them, and dishes are cooked to order rather than held under a heat lamp. The menu runs through the standard list, including dumplings, fried rice, general tso's chicken, lo mein, and crab rangoons, alongside combo plates that pair rice with a protein portion. It operates on a walk-in basis with no reservations. The restaurant opens every day of the week except Tuesdays, when it is closed.

“I recently visited this Chinese restaurant while on a road trip to Maine and had a genuinely enjoyable experience. The staff were friendly and attentive. The service was very fast. The food was the real highlight. Everything was fresh and hot. The dumplings had a flavorful filling. The fried rice was the best I have had in a long time. The portions were generous, making it a great value for the price. I also appreciated the variety on the menu. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for delicious Chinese food and I look forward to coming back again when I am in the area.”

“I've been looking for this taste for a long time, used to live in the Bronx and would get chinese food after school. You have to try the chicken and broccoli and the boneless ribs, reminds me of cha sui.”

“New Main Moon 2 has been our go to for quite a long time. But last couple orders have not been good. Confirmed by other patrons coming back to pick up missing items while we wait for order. Dumpling wraps way thicker than normal. More like perogies. Crab rangoons half filled. Too many mistakes that we have to go back. Combo dishes that are 75% rice. Time to go back to panda garden in bethel.”

“Placed an order and the owners daughter took it and I paid. When I asked the owned it's a large lo mein correct she replied yes. I get home and it's small and the vegetable fried rice has no eggs. When I called and said you should not have your daughter take orders if she can't get correct. She told me the price was for the small why would I care about the price. Disappointed is not even the word I have to say.”

“Went for a meal to eat after a long day at work. Was looking for a simple, stomach filling place to eat for a decent price. This place was just that. The girl at the front who seems to be the daughter saw me and stood up to take my order. The food was ready in just a few minutes but they still tasted amazing. They're not world-changing, but you get what you pay for. I also had a nice conversation with the owner, making the space really comfortable. I've been to several Chinese takeout restaurants around states (I travel a lot), but this place gave me such a hearty experience I just had to rate it.”

Customer Review Summary

Fried rice draws frequent praise, with several reviewers calling it the best they've had and highlighting generous portions. Dumplings come up close behind, praised by some for flavorful filling but criticized by others as too thick, more like perogies, while crab rangoons are described as half filled. Reviewers also single out the chicken and broccoli and the boneless ribs, and several first-time visitors mention trying yellow rice. A recurring complaint centers on order accuracy: multiple diners report missing items, a vegetable fried rice arriving without eggs, and combo dishes described as mostly rice, with some tracing mix-ups to the family member handling the register. One reviewer describes a general tso's chicken order as greasy and something they had to throw away, calling the kitchen unsanitary. Several reviewers who keep coming back mention watching their order get cooked fresh right at the counter while they wait.
