About The Old Police Station
The Old Police Station is a tea room on Tavistock Rd in Yelverton, set in a former police station with a chippy at the front. The chippy serves chips, and booths give diners a place to sit and eat. The menu runs to cream teas and cooked breakfasts, including a small cooked breakfast. Pasties come in Cheese & Onion and Steak. The team accommodates dietary requirements. Dogs are welcome, and the building stands near the prison.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly, helpful staff come up in nearly every review, including a chef and team who accommodated one diner's dietary requirements. Cream teas are the most repeated draw, with a ploughman's lunch, a small cooked breakfast described as perfectly cooked, and takeaway chips called gorgeous and freshly made also praised. Reviewers call the menu reasonably priced, mention booths, outdoor seating and dog friendliness, and one enjoyed browsing locally knitted goods on display. The criticism centres on the food. One reviewer found the pasty fillings lovely but the pastry soggy from microwaving, the chips tasting of old oil, and the prices aimed at tourists. Another said a "Big" breakfast came with frozen sausages and a single piece of bacon. One noted clothes smelling of bacon and chips after leaving because the kitchen extraction was working poorly. One party said a booked table was waiting on arrival, and a cold, snowy day ended with hot food and a large pot of tea.

“Friendly staff. Great booths for eating. We both had the small cooked breakfast and it was perfectly cooked. If you're in Princetown, drop in for a coffee or tea or scone - lovely little family-run place.”

“We had a Cheese & Onion pasty, a Steak pasty and a bowl of chips between us alongside 2 cans of Fanta Orange, costing £22.65 in total. The pasty fillings were lovely, however they microwaved them to heat them up resulting in awful dire soggy pastry. The chips tasted of old burnt cooking oil, there is no excuse for not changing the oil. The pasties were served with a miniscule side salad for decoration. The prices were obviously Grockle prices, tailored for the holiday makers that arrive by the coachload, I can not recommend this cafe, I have given it two stars because of the staff, hard working and thorough in cleaning the tables. I did notice the waitress give a wry smile when I ordered the pasties, now I know why.”

“Good food, reasonably priced. We were very pleased that the tea room was opened at 3pm (everything else around was shut). We enjoyed our meal. I also managed to chat to a local lady and buy a beanie and a scarf from a display of knitted goods made by local artists. Superb!”

“Great spot and lovely staff let down by poor ingredients. Frozen sausages are a bit 90s and you can’t put the word ‘Big’ in the title of a breakfast and then serve one piece of bacon. I know times are hard with the prison being closed, but I would’ve happily paid an extra fiver for a proper breakfast.”
