About Butley Orford Oysterage
Butley Orford Oysterage is a seafood restaurant on Market Hill in Woodbridge, with its own smokehouse running alongside its oysterage. That pairing puts local oysters and smoked fish on one menu, and the oysters include Rockafella. The kitchen centres on seafood, with dressed crab among the starters and skate wing among the fish mains. A vegetarian dish occasionally appears on the specials, and the dessert list includes sticky toffee pudding and treacle tart. The dining room is small, with basic decor. Reservations are required.

Customer Review Summary
Oysters are the draw most reviewers raise, served from the restaurant's own oysterage, with the rockafella oysters singled out and others calling them excellent quality. Close behind are simply cooked fish dishes: skate wing, sea bass off the bone, a selection of smoked fish, crab cakes, whitebait and mackerel pate on toast. Reviewers call the seafood fresh and the service friendly, and a couple describe the small room as basic and rustic. Sticky toffee pudding and treacle tart drew praise, though puddings split opinion. The most detailed complaint comes from one diner who found the prices extreme, arrived to a table that was not ready, and thought the school room chairs uncomfortable. That reviewer called the basque cheesecake disappointing, said the chocolate and almond cake tasted of almond essence, and described the lobster salad as standard. The mixed grill held one prawn, one mussel and two sardines, and another diner was not so impressed by the dressed crab.

“Delicious! Perfect setting for a delicious seafood treat. Highly recommend the rockafella oysters!”

“Fresh seafood nicely cooked. We’ve been here a few times over the years and have always enjoyed it. The seafood is the focus and don’t expect much else - although I did not a vegetarian dish on the specials this time - it’s not somewhere to come with anyone who isn’t a fan of seafood. It’s not fine dining but great produce cooked well”

“From sea to fork and in-between. Only just discovered this little gem recently. Located in the beautiful and charming village of Orford. The oysters and fish we had were amazingly good! Simple and delicious fish and seafood 😋”

“Lovely fish restaurant with a good selection of smoked fish. I had the selection of smoked fish and thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife had the dressed crab but was not so impressed”
