About Three Joes Sourdough Pizza

Three Joes Sourdough Pizza is a pizza restaurant at 9 Great Minster St in Winchester, close to the cathedral. The kitchen makes its sourdough pizzas from scratch daily and cooks them in a wood-fired oven. Toppings come as listed on the menu, with extras available to add on top, and the mushroom pizza can be ordered with goats cheese. Garlic chicken and pepperoni are also on the list, and a garlic dip is served alongside. Local craft beer and milkshakes round out the drinks. The room inside is small. The restaurant is open daily.

Customer Review Summary

Sourdough pizza is the draw, with the garlic chicken and the pepperoni named most often and the base described as tasty and freshly made, though one reviewer found the crust too hard to cut. Close behind are friendly staff and outside tables with a view of the cathedral. Also praised are a mushroom pizza with garlic dip, the homemade lemonade, the brownie, house slaw and olives, and the vegetarian variety, while one found the mojitos a miss and the salad dressing lacking. One reviewer suggests booking for indoor seating. The recurring complaint is slow service when busy. One diner waited a long time for pizzas that arrived dry, not hot and with soggy dough, says delivery drivers were served before seated tables, and also reports a dirty water glass that was replaced immediately. Another waited far longer than the quoted time and describes a sharp reply from the front desk that the pizzas were still in the oven.

“Fantastic sour dough pizzas with an amazing view of Winchester Cathedral. First time that I've had garlic chicken pizza and I thought it was great. Really good atmosphere and friendly service so I'd recommend to anyone.”

“This was a particularly disappointing visit. I'd been recommend to eat here. Following a very long and detoured journey to Oxford and back we felt that it's a deserved treat. Having been sat almost immediately and ordered pretty much at the same time things began to go downhill from there. Very dirty table water glass. Yes the waiter immediately changed it but it should never have reached this far in the restaurant. We ordered the most easiest pizza to prepare bearing in mind from prepare to table is about 90 seconds for a decent pizza. About 30 minutes or more later they arrived. Dry, not hot, lacking flavour, soggy dough. We did mention these observations which were met with a half hearted apology. What is very noticeable is the amount of delivery drivers who clearly have the monopoly and they are definitely served before the humans at tables. It's a massive shame and a bit of a disaster for people who can actually get out for some down time. They are second citizens in a money orientated world 🌎 Not my best choice or decision. Should have gone to my favourite curry 🍛 house instead.”

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Had an amazing experience at Three Joes Sourdough Pizza! 🍕 The pizza was absolutely delicious fresh, flavourful, and some of the best sourdough pizza we’ve had. The atmosphere was fantastic too, creating a really welcoming and enjoyable dining experience. What made it even better was the wonderful staff, who were friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel looked after. A special shout-out to Matilda, who served us and was absolutely lovely throughout our visit. Her warm and friendly service really stood out and made our meal even more enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend!”

“Had a power outage nearby but saw them helping another local restaurant. Had a lovely bearded man serve us, very friendly and super approachable. Accommodated us despite no prior booking due to a power outage where we were trying to go. Food tasted amazing and service was decent speed too. Highly recommend. Will be returning. Very good pizza, none of the oily rubbish!”

“We visited today, had the Pepperoni pizza and the Garlic chicken pizza, both fantastic options. Thin base, freshly made, the taste was very good. The only downside was the crust was a little bit too hard to cut into - not a big deal! We were able to sit outside and the atmosphere of the cathedral and museum is lovely. All the staff were lovely and the food very reasonably priced.”
