About Hickory's Smokehouse Wilmslow
Hickory's Smokehouse Wilmslow is a barbecue restaurant in Wilmslow, at the Boddington Arms. A mini cinema room lets kids watch a movie while they wait for food, and children get popcorn when they are seated, so families with young diners have something to do before the plates arrive. The pitmasters smoke the brisket for 16 hours, and the menu also covers ribs, smoked sausage and wings, with mac n cheese as a side alongside burgers and shakes. Trays and platters are built for sharing. Booths and Texas-themed artwork fill the dining room, and tables are walk-in. A gluten-free menu is available, and staff check allergies on a tablet. The bar pours cold beer and cocktails and shows American football during the NFL season.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the service, describing attentive, friendly staff, including a server who sorted a baby's milk at a busy time and left the table untouched while the family stepped outside to settle the child. Close behind is the family appeal: free popcorn when seated and a mini cinema where kids watched The Incredibles while the adults finished their meal. On the food, the melt in the mouth brisket with mac n cheese draws the strongest praise. Diners also mention smoked sausage, ribs, wings and cocktails, along with decor that felt like Texas. The recurring caveat is food quality for the price. One reviewer found the Oklahoma Smash Burger meat poor, the sauce and coleslaw too sweet, and the fries generic, while another called the food not great for the cost. A returning diner adds that the salmon's sides have changed repeatedly, from rice, nachos and guacamole to wedges, tater tots, and now a salad with corn ribs.

“I’ve been eager to try out Hickory’s for a while after hearing good things about their gluten-free options, so I decided to try out their Wilmslow location; it’s on the outskirts of the town. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype for me. The car park can be pretty tight, and it can get busy, so I would say to plan ahead and reserve a table during busier times and be prepared to struggle with parking. Starting off with the positives, I loved the decor of this place; it’s clear they’ve spent a lot of time and effort into giving it that American feel. It feels like you’re walking into Dallas, with so many touches, including the artwork, booths and barrels outside. The gluten-free menu also has a lot of options, and the staff seem knowledgeable regarding allergies, as a manager came over to my table to double-check everything with a tablet. Sadly, the food quality was a disappointment for me; it felt like generic chain, potentially even fast-food quality. I went for the Oklahoma Smash Burger; the quality of the meat wasn’t great, and I found the sauce on the burger to be too sweet (which also was the case for the coleslaw). The fries also were generic fries and didn’t taste fresh. I get themed restaurants can cost a little more, but I do feel this place was pricey, especially for the quality of the food - It wasn’t worth the money. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t return here for food, although I do like the vibes and interior and would consider coming for drinks if I find myself in the area in the future.”

“First time visiting a Hickory’s! Food was good, atmosphere was really joyful but the best part was the service! Lola was incredibly accommodating (tricky at the busy time we went) ensuring we could get our baby’s milk sorted, feed her, and still eat in a comfortable timeframe. When our baby cried, Lola made sure our table was left untouched while we took baby outside to calm and soothe, and made some brilliant menu recommendations, too. Lola is definitely the reason we will be visiting again. Thank you so much for turning what could have been a stressful evening into a real delight 😊”

“I used to come here all the time and i had the salmon every time I went and it was always delicious. They seem to have changed the sides repeatedly. It used to come with rice, nachos and guacamole and it was really good. Then they changed to wedges which were fine. Then they changed to tater tots which weren’t my choice but they allowed me to switch to fries but they have now changed it to a salad and corn ribs (which is just a corn on the cob cut up with some sauce and feta on it). I was a bit disappointed by my visit this time and not sure if I’ll be returning any time soon”

“This was my first time visiting this establishment, and I cannot overstate the incredible level of customer service we received from Lola and her colleagues. Even the manager, Phil, was hands-on and highly attentive despite being incredibly busy. The hospitality was so wonderful that they could have put the worst dish in front of me and I would have happily accepted it! Thankfully, the food was also phenomenal. We ordered the Chicken Fajita plate and the Carnivore plate, accompanied by standard sparkling water. The pricing is very reasonable considering the exceptional quality. Absolutely fantastic all around. Thank you to the whole team! Adam”
