Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the loaded fries with cheese, brisket and truffle, with one reviewer saying a table order to share is the minimum. Close behind are the fried chicken burger, waffles with confit of duck, pie, steak and eggs, and the beef cheek curry, all praised for freshness and generous portions. The big, varied menu with plenty of vegetarian options comes up repeatedly, and staff are described as friendly, helpful and accommodating even when rushed. Walkers on the Cumbria Way who stayed over call the rooms comfortable and clean, though one found the room tired, with a strong smell of cooking oil, and tight for three people. Several mention a busy atmosphere, and one reviewer says to book a table. Another notes that at busy times drinks may need ordering at the bar. The dog friendly welcome gets a mention too. One reviewer recalls a server letting their mother, whose cancer had affected her taste, swap a glass of wine for free.

“A very enjoyable experience with a welcoming atmosphere and attentive service. The pub was clean, well maintained, and had a comfortable setting. “We stayed for one night during a walk along the Cumbria Way. We had the triple room, room 10, for two adults and if there jad been three of us with bags etc it would have been a bit of a squeeze. The room was tired, but clean and comfortable. Unfortunately it must have been over the kitchen the smell of cooking oil was quite strong. The staff were great. Quite obviously rushed off thier feet but always helpful and in good humour. We had dinner in the restaurant and the menu is huge. Massive variety. We had pasta and the beef cheeky curry and both were really tasty. Breakfast was plentiful. You will definitely be well fed.”

“This is a taditional pub in the country and lives up to that ideal. It has plenty of character and plenty of seating in a variety of areas of the pub. You can eat at your table and the restaurant is an adjacent room with plenty of tables available to book. We went on a Sunday night and it was busy with a great atmosphere and suprisingly quiet. The menu is varied with traditional options as well as other styles. There is a good selection of beers, wines, spirits and non-alcoholic alternatives. The service is friendly andnhelpful, at busy times you may need to go to the bar for more drinks, and quick to serve. Overall, a nice place to come with all ages of you and your family.”

“A brilliant stop on the Cumbria Way, it's a excellent pub with loads of life to it. Room are great, comfortable, clean with all the amenities you'd need. They even had a little fan for the hot night to provide a little extra relief. Staff are very good. Book your table as it gets busy. Excellent menu and food was tops. Highly recommend.”
