About Toby Carvery Runwell
On Runwell Rd in Wickford, Toby Carvery Runwell is a carvery that pairs its roast service with an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet, giving guests a choice of two meals. At the carvery, guests go up to the counter, pick their meat, and add their own vegetables, such as cauliflower cheese. Roast potatoes, parsnips, sauces and gravy complete the plate. A queue forms at the counter at busy times. Staff greet guests and seat them at a table, then take drink orders and bring the drinks over. Refills come with the drinks, and desserts are available to finish. Dogs are welcome, so guests can bring theirs along.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers come for the carvery itself, praising hot, plentiful meat and a wide spread of vegetables, with lamb, carrots, peas, runner beans and cauliflower cheese named specifically. One diner found the vegetables more organised here than at another branch, and a few mention nice desserts and good-value drink refills. The atmosphere is described as relaxed, friendly and family oriented, and servers are repeatedly called friendly and helpful, even during a busy Saturday rush. The criticisms are concrete. One diner found the roast potatoes pale and underdone, another thought the meat portions small, and one said the food dried up under the hot lamps. A reviewer who queued at the carvery counter saw all three staff boxing takeaways while no one carved, and another was billed for a super king carvery that was never ordered, which was removed once raised. One reviewer recommends booking in advance because it gets busy. When a child spilled a drink, a server brought the family a fresh dinner, and another table had happy birthday sung to a daughter.

“David (chef) and Mia (shift manager) were super stars. Mia managed and looked after a very busy restaurant. Saturday rush is nothing to laugh at. David had good banter and was genuinely fun to speak to. Great service, atmosphere was perfect for faMillie’s and ofcourse the food was perfect. Stuffed as always but VERY satisfied.”

“We’ve been to Toby Carvery Runwell several times now and it’s always a really enjoyable experience. The food was delicious and, most importantly, everything was piping hot when we got to the carvery counter. There was a great selection and everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The staff were all very polite and welcoming. I can’t quite give full marks for the service simply because, with the carvery setup, there isn’t a huge amount of table service involved — but every interaction we had was friendly and pleasant. The atmosphere is one of the best things about this particular Toby Carvery. It has a really warm, relaxed, family feel and always seems welcoming whenever we visit. It can get busy, so I’d definitely recommend booking in advance as this can significantly reduce your wait time. Great food, lovely atmosphere and consistently enjoyable — we’ll definitely be back!”

“Bank holiday Monday dinner for two. Food hot and plentiful. Nice friendly atmosphere. Server Mia was very helpful and friendly, it was a very hot environment for her to work in but she smiled through it.”

“Very chilled and relaxed atmosphere. The food was really tasty! I usually go to the Newbury Toby Carvery, but must say the veggies etc was much more organised here and rather tasty! It was lovely of Lisa J to sing happy birthday to my daughter too. Thank you!!”

“the Q for carvery was ridiculous, waited around 20 mins before getting to the front and it was absolutely boiling. There were 3 staff members running around like crazy, but all 3 were rushing yo put together takeaways and no one was carving ! My partner gave up and my elderly mum nearly passed out, firstvtime at runwell Toby and wouldn't go back. Food was fine and reasonably priced, showed to our seat quickly and Service at table was good.”
