About Whitby Brewery Ltd
Whitby Brewery Ltd is a brewery and tap on East Cliff in Whitby, built by hand by local Whitby craftsmen and brewing Yorkshire ales on site since 2013. The beer list runs across cask ales, keg beers, ciders and radlers, with Fossil Fuel, a hazy New England IPA, joined by a blonde, a NEPA and a seasonal radler. A bar and shop sells bottled beer and merchandise such as hoodies. Pizzas come from the pizza oven in the on-site pizza kitchen, and food orders start in the afternoon, with a queue to place them. Seating inside includes beer keg seats, and the views take in Whitby Abbey ruins and the North Sea. A stage hosts live music on Fridays and Saturdays. Getting there means climbing the 199 steps up to the Abbey, and the brewery is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the beer, with the seasonal radler and the Fossil Fuel hazy New England IPA named as standouts, alongside a blonde and a NEPA, and a range of cask and keg options. Close behind come the pizzas, called tasty and served piping hot from a proper pizza oven, and the abbey and sea views reached by the 199 steps, which several say are worth the climb. Live music, outdoor seating and friendly staff also earn praise. The complaints are specific. One diner waited from late morning for the kitchen to open and says staff let some people order before the cutoff and turned others away, so their pizzas arrived well after a later-arriving couple's. Another reports that dogs roamed and licked surfaces at tables despite the pet-friendly policy. A few mention slow service, a weak wine choice, nothing hot to drink, and a wish for garlic bread or sauces with the pizza. One couple liked it so much they returned a second day.

“A very atmospheric pub with an incredible view, pleasant service, and good craft beer. But the real disappointment was that, while the establishment markets itself as pet-friendly, it seems to overlook the people who don't want to sit at a table where a dog has been running around, sitting, and licking surfaces. I have nothing against animals, but I do think basic standards of hygiene and behavior should be observed.”

“The Tap was so good we went twice in 2 days. The staff were excellent and the beer was even better. Seasonal Radler was particularly welcome in the heat. The pizza (£13 ea) was served piping hot and freshly made by Mike in a proper pizza oven. Gutted our accommodation wasn’t closer so we could have stayed for the live music and a couple more bevvies”

“This place is absolutely excellent. Well worth the 199 steps to have this as the reward at the top. A lovely setting, excellent well kept beers and a little more recently awesome pizzas. They have come a long way since opening with getting more seating, permanent toilets, live music, pizzas on site. Overall a lovely place to let a few hours drift away.”

“Smashing craft brewery tap in prime location by the Abbey. Beer brewed on site. 6 cask ales and 8 keg beers / cider / radlers. Plenty of outdoor space but no doubt gets chocka in high season. Pizza kitchen and drinks takeaway. We had the blonde, NEPA and radler. All very nice but the 2.1% radler was super refreshing. Worth the climb up the 199 steps.”

“The Brewery is a Fantastic spot to relax and put your feet up after a look around the Abbey, wide range of brewed drinks. Staff were friendly and service was quick. There was plenty of seating outside as well as some inside for duller days. 🍻”

“Whitby Brewery has been producing delightfully delicious Yorkshire ales since 2013. The brewery itself was built by hand by local Whitby craftsmen and has proven to be perfect for brewing cracking Yorkshire ales! We use only the finest floor-malted barley and whole hops to make what we think are some of the best beers about.”
