Quick info
About Shearwater Cabin
Shearwater Cabin is a tea room on Clay St in Warminster, overlooking the lake at Shearwater. Dogs and horses are both welcome, and a dog menu with treats serves walkers who bring their pets along. Coffee, cakes and pastries make up the core of the offer, with a Stilton ploughman's lunch for something more filling. Hot food is limited to sausage rolls and bacon baps, and the counter also stocks pre-made sealed food and a range of snacks, including vegan options. Tables are wooden slats, with some seating inside. Parking is paid through the RingGo app.

Customer Review Summary
The lakeside setting is what reviewers raise most, with views over Shearwater called exquisite. Coffee and cakes or pastries come close behind, described as very good and quick even on a busy Sunday, and one reviewer liked the Earl Grey. The Stilton ploughman's is praised for presentation and portion, and another reviewer found a ploughman's reasonable. Some mention pleasant staff and convenience for dog walkers. The complaints are specific. One reviewer says the only hot food is sausage rolls and bacon baps, the bacon was precooked and not warm, the coffee was tasteless, and staff could not explain the difference between a bacon roll and a bap. Another calls a can of ginger beer and the rest of the menu a rip off. A November visitor found the door wide open, almost no heating, and an outside toilet down a slope without handrails. One notes confusion over whether paid parking had started. Even so, one walker describes stopping mid walk for a tasty lunch and a hot drink.

“A superb café in beautiful surroundings by Shearwater lake. We had coffee's and pastries which are of the highest quality. I can thoroughly recommend Shearwater Cabin.”

“A great place to visit and walk around Shearwater at an unfussed pace. The pre-made sealed food was good as were and drinks at the Cabin (the Earl Grey tea was a nice option). Clean cabin with sheltered benches to keep the sun off on my heatwave 2026 July visit with inside seating available. Parking is now paid either via an app (RingGo) or may be possible at the cabin. There was some confusion amongst some visitors with some unsure if the pay parking had actually started so I downloaded and used the app that actually worked. Mobile signal was good with my BT (EE) SIM.”

“Absolutely disgusting abuse of location. Just one can of ginger beer cost me £2.75, which is ridiculous. Longleat are taking advantage of the fact this is the only place to buy food and drink for miles around, assuming you don’t go to the pub for a meal. This shows what Longleat, as a company, thinks of the people they’re serving. Essentially saying, you’ll pay and we don’t care what you think. At least be reasonable. Everything else on the menu was a rip off, too. You’re far better off packing food and drink before you leave. Additionally, I don’t know if this is related to the cafe, but they’re about to charge for parking which they never did before. It’s sickening that Longleat don’t believe nature should be available to everyone without a ridiculous charge.”

“The only hot food available are sausage rolls, bacon baps type stuff. The menu offers bacon rolls or bacon baps but the staff could not explain the difference. Turns out is only baps. Bacon precooked so not warm and succulent. Coffee tasteless. Staff indifferent. So overall would shame a roadside food van. I dont think the Longleat estate employ managers with a flair for catering. On the good side, the the cakes looked good and the setting overlooking the lake is to die for. Very convenient for dog walkers. At the time of writing the Longleat-managed car park was free.”

“Took a relative for a nostalgia visit to celebrate their 80th birthday. To be honest I wish we had gone elsewhere. Plus points: wide range of snacks, including vegan. Depending where you sat excellent views of the lake. Negative: we visited in November, the door was positioned wide open and heating almost non-existent. The tables are made of wooden slats and where they join the frame considerable amounts of food crumbs, especially flaky pastry were highly evident. If you needed a toilet, that was an outside walk down the slope - no handrails.”
