About Leafy Oak Tea Room
Leafy Oak Tea Room is an oak-framed tea room on Hertford Road in Ware, open daily and sharing a site with Leafy Oak Nursery. Afternoon tea is served in the garden room, with sandwiches, scones, cakes, quiche and a sausage roll alongside the tea. The daytime menu adds avocado on toast and bagels, and pancakes appear on pancake day. The quiche, scones and cakes are homemade, and coffee is on offer with the chocolate cake. Orders are placed at the counter, and weekends and sunny days bring a queue to order and a wait for food. A plant shop and a small play area for children sit on the same site. The tea room hosts baby showers, and its Mother's Day afternoon tea comes with a plant as a gift.

Customer Review Summary
Afternoon tea is the main draw at Leafy Oak, with reviewers praising the homemade quiche, scones and cakes, and several describing it as lovely, including a Mother's day tea that came with a plant to take home. Baby showers held here earn warm thanks for helpful, accommodating staff. Close behind, one reviewer calls the coffee excellent and the chocolate cake delicious, and another enjoyed pancake day. Reviewers describe the staff as friendly and polite, and the setting as beautiful, with a community feel. The recurring caveat is crowding and slow service. One reviewer on a mobility scooter found a tight squeeze at the second set of doors, no ramp to the outdoor tables, and a long wait for cheese on toast, while another mentions a wait for food on a busy day. The harshest account describes pancakes and avocado both running out, a sausage bagel arriving without the bacon ordered, and a refund handed over in cash that came up short by a couple of pounds until it was pointed out.

“I had my baby shower at Leafy Oak Tea Room a couple of months ago, and it was so perfect! Molly was so helpful and accommodating when planning this, she and all the staff really made it such a special day. The food was perfect and all my guests loved it. Thank you all again, it was a perfect afternoon x”

“Such a disappointment. Stopped off as we saw they did pancakes which the kids were excited to have. After waiting to order we were told they had ‘run out’ or pancakes. Run out of flour?! Eggs? Really? Made a quick order to avoid having to the back of the long queue again. After waiting about 20mins they then came out to say there was no avocado for the avocado on toast my husband had ordered. He then ordered a sausage and bacon bagel, only for a sausage (no bacon) bagel to come out and not on the bread we had ordered. My ciabatta was hardly toasted and was not enjoyable as a result. Had to go stand in the queue again (not appreciated as the place is very hot on a warm day) to go get our refund (nobody made any effort to come to us to sort the refund). Wasn’t able to get refund via card so had to take cash. I told the girl how much was owed - £6. She gave me £4. Had to point out the maths mistake and then wait for her to go find more £1 coins as she had run out. The place is seeming being staffed by a load of young girls who doing a poor job of the basics. Not sure if it’s usually like this but we won’t be back again to find out. Avoid this place, there are much nicer options around.”

“Made the bold (and clearly optimistic) decision to visit on a sunny Saturday afternoon—apparently the exact same idea everyone else in the county had. Navigating the place with my mobility scooter quickly turned into an Olympic sport, especially when faced with the “tight squeeze of doom” at the second set of doors. We ventured into the covered outdoor area, where we were greeted by what can only be described as the aftermath of a very successful afternoon tea—empty cups, crumbs, and dreams left behind on the table we found. Feeling adventurous, we attempted to relocate to some outdoor tables we’d spotted, but alas… no ramp. My scooter and I briefly considered parkour, but decided against it. Back inside we went, where space was at such a premium that my scooter had to perform a quick-change act—thankfully it folds faster than my patience on a 40-minute wait time. With no place to park it without becoming a health hazard, we squeezed in and chose our treats. A few minutes later, my daughter returned from ordering with the news: “Mum… it’s a 40-minute wait for cheese on toast.” At that point, even the cheese looked like it needed a lie down before it was ready. We made a tactical retreat and headed to Plants Galore instead—plenty of staff there and significantly less emotional investment required for a sandwich. Might give it another go on a dull weekday… when both the crowds and the cheese are a little less demanding.”

“Had a Mother's day afternoon tea here with my Mum and we both had a lovely afternoon. Lovely sandwiches, scones, cakes, quiches, sausage roll & plenty of tea. A little expensive but Mum even got a lovely plant to take home as a gift included. Staff were friendly and made sure everything went smoothly despite being very busy.”
