About Read & Digest Tearoom By The Old Pump
Read & Digest Tearoom By The Old Pump is a tea house and bistro in Walsingham, at 54 High St, with books lining the walls to read over a pot of tea. Tea is served in china teapots with saucers. Upstairs, a sofa and extra tables and chairs give a second place to sit. The kitchen makes its cakes and other baked goods in-house, and the scones come in plain, lavender, cheese and lemon varieties. Savoury plates include the Pump house pie and homemade soups, and the menu carries gluten free teacake and crumpets as well as vegan options. The tearoom runs daytime hours only and is closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Customer Review Summary
Homemade scones and cakes anchor the praise, with reviewers naming a lavender scone, a lemon scone with lemon curd and a cheese scone paired with soup, plus a cake one diner calls the moistest of their life. Several say the baking is done in-house each morning and that vegan and gluten free choices are available, including a gluten free teacake with butter and gluten free crumpets. Close behind are the hot dishes, such as the pump house pie, a crumble with homemade custard spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, and a range of homemade soups. Tea earns its own credit, served in china teapots and described as high quality and brewable many times, while one reviewer found the cappuccino excellent. The only complaint is from a single reviewer who found the Earl Grey tasted weird. Upstairs seating with bookshelves and a sofa suits solo travellers, and the owners and staff are called friendly and welcoming. One visitor with a dog was brought dog treats.

“The food was absolutely incredible!! I might have had the moistest, most delicious cake of my life here. Every cake is handmade by the owner herself, and it shows in every bite. Paired with an amazing drink, the entire experience was unforgettable.”

“Visited this lovely little tearoom as we waited for our return journey on the light railway. We had the house tea-for-two, two sausage rolls (mustard, & apple), and two scones (plain, & lavender) - all of the above being fantastic. The owners were so kind & welcoming. All their baked goods are made in-house every morning. The result is incredible food, and an excellent range of food-options to choose from. Highly recommend if you‘re visiting via the light railway, passing through on bike, or otherwise. 5 stars.”
