Customer Review Summary
Breakfast is the clear draw at Poppies, with reviewers praising the Poppies breakfast, the veggie breakfast and a large full English, all described as delicious and generous in portion. Close behind are the dishes named from the bistro side, including sea bass reviewers call very fresh, steak, eggs Benedict and eggy bread, plus a bistro night three course deal one diner calls a bargain. Homemade extras come up repeatedly: gluten-free cookies, free biscuits on the side, and milkshakes made with homemade ice cream. Reviewers also mention good gluten-free and veggie options, and describe the staff as welcoming, friendly and happy. The one recurring note is size. One reviewer says the portions are big enough that a light eater might share or choose a kids meal, and another says the place is tiny, so a few suggest pre booking a table for bistro nights. One group who arrived without a reservation still found a table, and a pair waiting for a train liked their breakfast enough to catch a later one.

“My daughter and I stopped here for lunch today and we absolutely LOVED it! ❤️ The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully prepared and full of flavour. You can really tell that everything is made with care and passion. And the homemade gluten-free cookies made by the chef… WOW! 🍪😍 They were absolutely incredible — honestly some of the best gluten-free cookies we’ve ever tasted! The atmosphere was lovely, the place has so much character, and we felt so welcome. It’s exactly the kind of independent little café that makes a day out extra special. We left with very happy tummies and a big smile! 🥰 We genuinely, genuinely recommend this place! If you’re visiting Ulverston, make sure you pop in — you won’t regret it. ❤️ We’ll definitely be back! 🍪☕️✨”

“Came here with my friends for brunch, we had the Poppies breakfast (1x veggie, 3x meat) and we all said it was the best we’d had in a long time! Everything was delicious, great coffees to go with and even homemade biscuits on the side for free 🥰 The staff seemed very happy, could tell it was a nice place to work! Would definitely recommend 🔥”
