About Pipers Fish & Chips
Pipers Fish & Chips is a fish and chips shop in Tenby, near the South Beach Esplanade, at 10 St George's St. The kitchen cooks chips fresh to order, so a short wait at the counter is part of the routine. The menu includes fish and chips, and a minced beef pie and chips for those after a pie instead. Curry sauce is available as an extra. Service is at the counter, and the small shop floor has staff working behind it. The shop is open daily, and a minimum applies to card payments. The fish is served in a cardboard box.

Customer Review Summary
Chips are the most common point of agreement, described as fresh and nice by several reviewers, though one found them lukewarm, dry and bruised after a wait in a quiet shop. A minced beef and pie was called light and not too doughy, and one takeaway of fishcake, chips, coleslaw and pickled gherkin was not greasy. Fish divides opinion: one reviewer calls it outstanding and perfectly cooked but small, while another describes it as soggy, undercooked and swimming in oil. The recurring complaints are portions and service. Several say the portions were the smallest they had seen and expensive, with a shared large fish and chips arriving with only a few chips, and one reports being overcharged for cheesy chips and two cans of drink. Several describe rude counter staff. One reviewer reports finding hair in meals three times during a family visit and asking for a refund. Another was refused when they asked for their chips to be tipped into a cardboard box kept for fish.

“Our family of nine people visited your food establishment and ordered different meals. Unfortunately, we experienced repeated issues with hair being found in the food. This happened on multiple occasions and was not an isolated incident. The first and second times this happened, we remained calm and more than patient. We brought the issue to the attention of staff and simply asked for the affected meals to be replaced. We gave your staff the opportunity to resolve the situation reasonably and without making a major issue of it. However, after the third occurrence of hair being found in our food, our patience had understandably run out. At this point, we no longer felt comfortable accepting replacement meals and requested a refund instead. The situation was made even worse by the conduct of an older male member of staff. Rather than taking our complaint seriously, he appeared to try to cover the hair with curry sauce and then attempted to blame us by suggesting that we had put it in the food ourselves. This was extremely insulting and unacceptable, particularly given that we had already reported the same issue more than once and had remained patient throughout. What made the situation even worse was the awful customer service we received throughout the process. Given that we were a family of nine who had already experienced the same serious hygiene issue repeatedly, we expected the matter to be handled with an appropriate level of concern, professionalism and understanding. Instead, we felt that our concerns were not taken seriously and that we were made to feel as though we were causing an inconvenience by raising a completely legitimate complaint. Finding hair in food once is unpleasant enough. Having it happen three separate times during the same visit, across different meals, is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about food preparation, hygiene standards and quality control. Attempting to conceal the hair with curry sauce and then blaming us for it only made the situation more distressing and undermined our trust further. We were extremely patient and gave your establishment two opportunities to put the situation right by replacing the meals. It was only after the third occurrence that we reasonably decided we could no longer trust the food being served and asked for our money back. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this place and would advise others to consider alternatives.”

“We ordered a large fish & chips to share & sauce which was around £20 to take away. Average wait as freshly cooked. The fish quality was outstanding and perfectly cooked but small and there was only a few chips. Quality not quantity!”

“Chips were nice enough but the smallest portions I've ever seen and incredibly expensive. We won't be returning.”

“Really disappointing meal - dont waste your money coming here. The guy behind the counter was miserable and rude, didn’t seem to care in the slightest. Chips were ok (hard to get wrong) but the fish was horrible - soggy, undercooked and swimming in oil (we had to mop up the plates with napkins before we even tried to eat it). At just under £50 for 2 adults and a child we were not impressed, will not go again. Watch out for the eating in charge too.”

“I was overcharged for a takeaway meal yesterday and didn't realise until it was too late. 2 regular chips with cheese and 2 cans of drink for over £20. The portions we received were very small too, especially for the price I actually paid. The chips were fresh and tasted nice, but we won't be returning.”
