Quick info
About Virginia Ash
Virginia Ash is a country pub and restaurant on Sherborne Rd in Templecombe, with a large interior and a garden. The kitchen runs a carvery with a choice of meats, vegetables and extras. Vegetarians have a nut roast made by the owner, and the mixed grill sits among the meat dishes. The menu offers choices for both meat eaters and vegetarians, followed by a dessert selection. A happy hour comes with a three-snacks deal. The restaurant caters for events, and a marquee takes larger gatherings, weather permitting. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly staff come up in most reviews, with diners describing a warm welcome from the bar team and servers who were efficient and pleasant. Food comes close behind, led by large portions. One couple praised a mixed grill and a chicken tikka with plenty of chicken, fluffy rice and soft naan, while a vegetarian called the nut roast the best they had tasted. The carvery, with its wide selection of meats and vegetables, and the Sunday lunches also earn praise, along with a good dessert choice and prices reviewers call reasonable. The country pub decor gets a mention too. The main criticism comes from a Christmas visit where staff seemed keen to leave and stood around watching diners eat, which felt uncomfortable. A separate Christmas party diner found a parsnip undercooked, though they excused it given the size of the crowd being catered for. Others describe sitting in the garden with their dog, and one family held a first birthday gathering from the lunch menu.

“We had a lovely little meal at the Virginia Ash - although due to the heat we dined fairly lightly. The 5-6pm happy hour was a welcome surprise, and the three snacks for £10 is superb value. The staff were very pleasant, especially the lady who I assume was the manager. We sat out in the garden with the dog and had a very enjoyable time, although the large interior also looked quite nice.”

“Food priced brilliantly. Less than I’d expect to pay given the quality. Great service and the lads that served us were top class. Beautiful inside decor - perfect country pub vibe. Will definitely come again.”

“I went out for food at The Virginia Ash a week ago and it was great with the brilliant service being a stand out factor. The pub was recommended to me by friends and it did not disappoint. The carvery was good with a wide selection of meats and vegetables/extras. We were served by a delightful young lady named Maisee who stood out from the rest as a friendly and efficient server which I wanted to highlight in my review. I will definitely be returning to The Virginia Ash.”

“Came here to eat around Christmas time. The food was nice, so no complaints there. However, the atmosphere from the staff wasn’t very welcoming and it felt as though they were keen to leave, even though we were seated early in the evening. Staff also spent a lot of time standing around watching us eat, which felt a bit uncomfortable. Sadly, the dishes for dessert were a little bit dirty, which was disappointing especially for my wife. Everyone seemed quite unhappy, which is a shame as it affects the overall experience. Hopefully just a bad evening and not the usual standard. Not a bad review, just hoping for a better dining experience next time.”

“Christmas dinner party and there were at least 2 other parties there too. Staff were lovely. Food ok only critisism was my parsnip wasnt cooked enough, but considering they were catering for 50+ people I think they did very well. Thank you for a very enjoyable evening. Just 1 more thing..... please wipe the tables with something that does not leave a sticky residue.”
