Quick info
About Umami World Buffet Restaurant Telford
Umami World Buffet Restaurant Telford is a buffet restaurant in Telford, at Unit 2/3, organised around live cooking stations. At the teppanyaki stand, a chef cooks the proteins, vegetables and sauces each guest chooses, so the plate is built to order. The wider buffet spans Chinese, Indian and Western dishes, with Mexican, Vietnamese and Italian options, and pizza sits among the hot items. A dessert section has a chocolate fountain, an ice cream machine, cakes and sweets. Drinks are ordered at the table, and staff clear plates while guests head back to the buffet. Parking is at the retail park, with payment made outside after the meal. Walk-ins are accepted without a booking, and bookings are also taken.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers center on the variety across Chinese, Indian, pizza and other cuisines, with the teppanyaki station singled out as a highlight where the chef cooks protein, vegetables and sauces to order. Close behind is the service, with several describing friendly, quick staff who clear plates fast and check on tables, and a few praising a waitress who made a family with young children feel welcome. Desserts get mentions too, including the ice cream machine, cakes and a chocolate fountain. The main complaint comes from a late Friday booking, where one reviewer says many dishes had run out by 8 pm and were not replenished, the biryani never returned, and waffles were gone. The same reviewer describes the noodle station with no chef until after they had eaten, a gammon joint with nobody carving, and missing guacamole at the nacho station. Another reviewer could not get any sweet and sour chicken, and another found the food quality the only downside. Several walk-ins found a table without booking, and one reviewer says parking is paid after the meal.

“Wonderful experience We were very pleased with our visit to Umami World Kitchen in Telford. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh and very well seasoned. There was a great choice of dishes, including both Chinese and Indian cuisine, so there was something for everyone. The whole team was very efficient and friendly, and the service was excellent. A special mention must go to Sabina, who greeted us with a lovely smile and genuinely went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. She was constantly making sure the tables were clean, checking that everything was alright and creating such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. She was energetic, attentive and it was very clear that she genuinely cares about customer service. There was also a young, tall gentleman with blond hair who was working extremely efficiently — unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to ask his name. He was also fantastic and clearly a very hardworking member of the team. Overall, you can really see that the staff work as a great team. Employees like this should absolutely be appreciated and valued. Thank you for a lovely experience. We really enjoyed our food and the excellent service, and we will definitely be happy to come back! Highly recommended. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”

“Visited Umami at Telford Retail Park on a Friday evening to celebrate a birthday. We had an 8:00 pm booking, so I wanted to share my experience for anyone planning a later visit. Parking tip: If you’re driving, parking at the retail park is paid. We paid £1 after 6 pm, so don’t forget to pay before heading in. Umami offers a world buffet with Chinese, Indian and Western dishes, live cooking stations and desserts. The concept is great, but unfortunately our experience didn’t match the price or expectations. The biggest issue was that many dishes had already run out by 8 pm and were not being replenished. For a buffet charging around £22 per person (excluding drinks), I expected the food to remain fully stocked until closing. The dessert section had a chocolate fountain with marshmallows and sweets, which looked nice, but the waffles had already gone. The remaining desserts were mainly mini pastries, melon, oranges and tinned fruit. It felt quite limited. The salad selection was basic, with a Caesar salad and one mixed salad that had a lot of peppers and heavy dressing. The live noodle station was disappointing. You could choose noodles and vegetables, but there was no chef available to cook them. The chef only appeared after we had already finished eating, meaning we missed the fresh cooking experience completely. The carving station was similar. A gammon joint was on display, but there was nobody carving it. Instead, burger patties were sitting on the counter, which seemed a little odd. The Indian section had a few curries and vegetarian dishes, but the biryani never came back despite us waiting. The Chinese section had the best selection with fried rice, noodles, beef and chicken dishes. The nacho station also had several items missing, including guacamole and toppings. The only food that seemed to be regularly replenished was the fried snacks like spring rolls and samosas. The staff were polite, but the buffet itself wasn’t being managed well. Some stations had no clean plates available, so we had to walk around to find them. It also felt like the restaurant had already started winding down before closing, even though customers were still arriving. Overall, I think the restaurant has good potential. The layout is nice and the variety is decent when everything is available. However, if you’re booking a later table, don’t expect the same experience as earlier diners. My suggestion to the management would be to keep the buffet fully stocked until closing, make sure the live cooking and carving stations are staffed throughout service, and ensure plates are always available. Those changes alone would make a huge difference. I’d probably visit again, but only earlier in the evening. Hopefully this feedback helps both future visitors and the management improve what could be a really good buffet experience.”

“I had a great time at Umami. It was a walk in with my friend and didn't need to book. There was plenty of seats available and we were shown were we could seat and had our drinks order taken. The place is very beautiful inside and the food was delicious and aswell as the drinks. It would be a good spot for a date too if you want to take someone there. Parking is available but you pay that outside after you've finished having the meal. Overall I was happy with the experience. I would come back here no doubt”
