About Swindon Rendezvous (Hoopers Place)

Swindon Rendezvous is a Chinese restaurant and takeaway on Hoopers Place in Swindon, with dining spread across multiple levels where paper lanterns hang from the ceilings amid ornate decor and graphics. The menu runs the Chinese restaurant format, with a lazy Susan set on each table and an all-you-can-eat option built from items marked as available for it. The room takes walk-ins alongside booked tables, and the team is on hand throughout the meal to clear plates and bring wipes between courses. A complimentary ice cream closes the service for diners. The kitchen also covers collection and delivery for those eating elsewhere in the area.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the all you can eat option, where dishes are cooked to order and arrive piping hot, with a huge variety to choose from. One group praises the lazy Susan in the middle of the table, and another describes wipes brought between courses and a complimentary tub of ice cream at the end. Diners also mention the stunning decor with paper lanterns, an impressive bar selection and delicious drinks. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and one reviewer says a dish was served separately because one of the pair dislikes honey. The main complaint is service. One group of six found their waitress rude, said plates went uncleared while plenty of staff were around, and said the ice cream was almost launched across the table before they were asked to add extra for service. Another reviewer notes some forgotten food, sorted once raised, and that items come out as they are cooked rather than all at once.

“Went as a group of 6 for all you can buffet on Monday evening. The restaurant looks really nice when you get inside. Friendly greeting on arrival. When initially ordering we thought the waitress was a bit surley but by the end of the evening we decided she was just outright rude. She appeared to be doing us a favour for taking our orders. When finished mains we sat for around 15 minutes but no one cleared the plates although plenty of staff around. Father in law asked a passing staff member if they could clear the plates and we got raised eyebrows and attitude. When the ice cream came out afterwards it was almost launched across the table to people. It was a shame as all the dishes we ordered were great and nothing was left but the service was a let down. When we paid the rude waitress asked if we wanted to add extra to the bill for service. We declined. Won't return in a hurry. Probably just get a takeaway and do without the rude service.”
