About Katana Japanese Cuisine - Spalding
Katana Japanese Cuisine is a family-run Japanese restaurant at 42 Double St in Spalding, where the chefs bring more than 15 years of experience in Japanese cooking. Teppanyaki tables put the chef at the grill in front of diners, with tricks like flipping an egg into a hat and tossing rice for guests to catch in their mouths. Away from the teppanyaki table, the menu runs to sushi, including a chef's recommended sushi platter, along with yakitori and yakisoba. Set menus are also offered. Service is evenings only, Tuesday to Sunday, and the restaurant closes on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
The teppanyaki table is what reviewers mention most, with the chef cooking in front of diners, explaining each step, joking, letting guests try flipping an egg into a hat and tossing rice to be caught in the mouth. One reviewer had the rib eye teppanyaki, and another found it good for children. Close behind is the sushi, with a chef's recommended platter singled out, along with chicken yakitori, squid, chicken gyozas and generous noodle portions of beef and seafood yakisoba. Staff are described as friendly and welcoming. The complaints concern value and atmosphere. One reviewer found the food nice but not worth the money, another felt the room lacked atmosphere, and a third was disappointed that a banana fritter dessert was only a quarter of a banana. One couple booked a teppanyaki table yet had to wait for the chef to finish another table, and a reviewer in a big group says the vegetables and rice went cold before the meat or fish was ready.

“The food is nice, but I don't believe it's worth the money. We requested a Teppanyaki table, but when we got there we were told we would need to wait for the chef to finish another table, even though we booked in. Music is from a little speaker behind the bar, which felt repetitive. Would go again for Teppanyaki table with a larger group, but not as a couple again.”

“Very kind and friendly staff who make the experience enjoyable! There is a lot of effort put into the tepanyaki tables which keeps you entertained. Good for children too. As you can see in the photo, we went for a 19th birthday celebration! Food is lovely and everything we ordered was very tasty and flavourful. Would definitely recommend 😊”

“First time visiting. First impressions not great. Lacked atmosphere not much decor and no music. Food tasted ok but for the price I expected good portions. Chicken with noddles £20. Worst was the banana fritter desert. Was just a quarter of a banana. £7. Where the rest of it. Wasn't a bad experience but wouldn't recommend it.”

“Had a very enjoyable meal here. The food was well prepared and tasty (I had rib eye teppanyaki), and the service was exceptional. It was a Sunday night so it was very quiet. But we’ll definitely come back another day, perhaps on a Friday or Saturday evening and perhaps sit at the table where the meat is cooked in front of you. Edit: Came back and had an amazing meal, genuinely one of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. The food is delicious but the experience is also excellent - the chef lets you try flipping an egg into your hat, and tosses rice towards you for you to catch in your mouth. Great food and great fun.”

“It’s a nice place to eat dinner. We ordered a Katana Delux Meal. Food taste really good, positions not too big so we didn’t struggle to empty the plates 😊 we are looking forward to come back”
