About Shanghai Garden
Shanghai Garden is a Chinese restaurant in Spalding, at Unit 1 Market Pl. The kitchen cooks Chinese noodle dishes, including beef chow mein and chicken chow mein, and it also plates salt and pepper squid. Satay sauce is part of the kitchen's range, adding another option for diners who want a sauce with their meal. Waitresses and younger staff bring the food to diners at their tables, so this is a sit-down restaurant where the team serves each party at the table.

“Generally satisfied with dishes though the egg fried rice had a taste and texture like brown rice, and something from Heron Frozen Foods. Waitresses do a great job and work very hard.”

“I placed a delivery order with a variety of dishes. The food itself was amazing, and the delivery driver was attentive, polite and a real credit to the restaurant. Unfortunately, one of the main dishes was missing from the order. I called the restaurant expecting a simple explanation and a quick resolution. The first lady I spoke to was lovely and spent around two minutes genuinely trying to find out what had happened, speaking to staff in the background to locate the missing dish. Then the experience took a completely different turn. Another woman took over the call, who I assume was the owner. I could hear her arguing with the staff in the background about the missing dish before she even properly addressed me. When she did speak to me, her manner was rude, dismissive and incredibly confrontational. She repeatedly insisted that the dish had been packed and that it must be there, despite the fact that I was looking at the food directly in front of me and it simply wasn't there. At that point, I was made to feel as though I was lying. It was genuinely uncomfortable and quite astonishing that, rather than acknowledging that there had clearly been a mistake somewhere, the response seemed to be to challenge me over whether the dish was actually missing. What made it worse was the feeling that I was somehow at fault for calling. I had paid for a main dish that hadn't arrived. I wasn't demanding anything unreasonable; I was simply reporting the problem and giving the restaurant the opportunity to fix it. Instead, I was met with an attitude that made a straightforward missing item issue feel like an argument I had somehow caused. Eventually, she agreed to send the driver back out with the missing dish at no extra cost, which was the right thing to do. However, by that point, what should have been a minor mistake had turned into a very unpleasant customer service experience. It's particularly disappointing because the positives were genuinely positive: the food was excellent, the driver was great, and the first lady I spoke to was helpful and pleasant. But the way the second woman handled the situation was completely unacceptable. Mistakes happen. Accusing or making a customer feel like they're lying when reporting one is another matter entirely. I would potentially give them another chance because the food really was that good, and I hope this was simply an exceptionally bad night for the restaurant. But based on this experience, I certainly wouldn't expect to feel comfortable raising an issue with them again. Update- Driver had returned with an explanation and apology for the issue, lovely driver who took the time to explain what happened and I informed that they not want to bring the phone with them if they are going to argue”
