About Carluccio's

Carluccio's is an Italian restaurant on Westquay in Southampton, serving Italian cuisine under a name that dates back to 1991. That year, the founders opened a food shop on Neal Street in London and wrote each label by hand. They also travelled across Italy to source the ingredients they stocked. In 1999 they opened the first Carluccio's Caffè in Market Place, extending the shop into a restaurant that put Italian food on the table.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the friendly, welcoming staff, with several describing a waiter who offered side dishes and top ups without being asked. Food comes next: the chicken saltimbocca at lunch and the sea bass are named as delicious, and one reviewer praises a breakfast menu with English and vegan options that the kitchen will amend on request. A platter of snacks with a glass of wine, tasty coffee and a dessert described as tasty also get mentions. Several call the prices reasonable or good value, and one says diners never leave hungry. The caveats are small and specific. One reviewer found the service impersonal though acceptable and objected to the discretionary service charge, which was removed from the bill. Another felt the dessert was slightly expensive but still very tasty. A weekday Valentine's lunch from a special menu, with an acceptable wait, is one of the experiences diners describe, and a few say they are coming back.

Highlights

“Carluccio’s began life in 1991 when Antonio and Priscilla opened their food shop in Neal Street, bringing the finest quality regional Italian food to London. They carefully wrote each label by hand and explored the length and breadth of Italy to find the best ingredients. In 1999 they opened the first Carluccio’s Caffè in Market Place – an authentic Italian restaurant in the truest sense of the word, and a continuation of their successful food shop.”
