About Freak Street Cafe

Freak Street Cafe is a diner in Sheffield on South Rd, where the Meat Thali comes as a tray of different little dishes with curries, homemade salad and pickles. Momos and small plates are shared at the table, and the curries are made for sharing too. The Bombay cheese toastie arrives with salad, chutney and relish on the side. Vegan and dairy free options appear on the food menu, so mixed tables can order from one list. To drink, the cafe pours lattes, a grapefruit and blood orange soda, and beer on tap, along with other soft and alcoholic drinks. The space can also be hired for private events and parties.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return most for the street food, and the meat Thali is the standout: a tray of small warm, spicy dishes with curries, homemade salad and pickles in a generous portion. Close behind is the Bombay cheese toastie, described as very cheesy with perfectly cooked potatoes and chutney and relish on the side. Others praise the lamb main, the small plates and momos shared at a group celebration, and a grapefruit and blood orange soda, along with beer on tap and a delicious latte. Vegan and dairy free options come up, as does morning coffee served before work. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is described as warm, welcoming and cosy. A few reviewers call the food good value, and one mentions an NHS discount. No recurring complaints appear in the reviews. One group says the cafe stepped in at short notice for a 40th birthday of more than twenty people, giving them the whole place and a soundtrack of their own to close the night.

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had the absolute pleasure of attending a private event at Freak Street Cafe this past Saturday, and once again, it did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived, the service was nothing short of first class — attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming. And the food? Absolutely exceptional, as it always is. Freak Street is one of those rare gems that works perfectly for any occasion. Whether you're planning a quiet, romantic date night, a fun get-together with friends and family, or even looking to hire out a beautiful space for a special celebration — this is your place. The atmosphere is just right, the team goes above and beyond, and the whole experience feels effortless and special every single time. A huge, heartfelt thank you to Linda and the entire Freak Street gang for being so incredibly amazing. You made our evening truly memorable, and we cannot wait to come back. Highly, highly recommended. Don't sleep on this one! 🙌”

“We loved Freak Street already but this weekend our friends now know about this little place in Walkley. After a friend was let down at short notice for a 40th birthday for 20+ people, Freak Street stepped in. We had the place to ourselves. From start to finish they were amazing, it’s such a cosy / friendly atmosphere, topped off with stunning food. We shared a mix of small plates, momos & a couple of curries, all were brilliant. We even had our own soundtrack on at the end of the night. If you haven’t tried this place before, I can’t recommend it enough ☺️”

“Freak Street Cafe is absolutely beautiful, such a gorgeous space with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by lovely people who are full of helpful and friendly recommendations. There’s a great variety of soft drinks and alcoholic options. I had the grapefruit and blood orange soda, which was so refreshing, and the beer on tap was delicious. For food, I had the meat Thali, a tray of different little dishes that were warm, spicy, and packed with flavor. The portion was generous, and everything from the curries to the homemade salad and pickles was absolutely spot-on. You can really taste the care and quality. Absolutely delicious, and I’ll definitely be coming back!”
