About Bean Theory (Waresley)

Bean Theory (Waresley) is a coffee shop in Sandy, set in a repurposed old stable block beside the Hone Coffee Roastery on the Waresley Park Estate grounds. It brings the Bean Theory name over from Cambridge. The drinks list covers specialty coffee, tea, lattes and hot chocolate. Food runs from toasties, including ham and cheese on sourdough, to a breakfast bun with bacon, avocado, egg and sausage on brioche. Homemade white chocolate cheesecake sits among the cakes. Indoors, the seating includes a high coffee bar, tables and chairs, and a settee in the corner. Dog owners are welcome to bring their dogs along.

Customer Review Summary

Toasties lead the praise at this stable-block cafe, with the ham and cheese on crunchy sourdough and a chicken toastie both singled out, and reviewers also rate the coffee, latte and hot chocolate highly. Close behind are the cakes, including a rich fruit cake that was shared and a homemade white chocolate cheesecake, and one reviewer describes a bacon, avocado, egg and sausage brioche breakfast bun. The courtyard and outdoor seating are called peaceful, and the staff are described as friendly and pleasant. Dog owners find it very dog friendly. Criticisms are mild and specific: one reviewer found the bakes a little dry, another thought a salad lacked dressing and crunch, and one found the chips not the best and the atmosphere meh. Several mention a short walk from the car park through the grounds, and one notes service slipped only on a busier open day.

“A little out of the way and nothing else to do but the cafe. The food was nice and the staff and service was very nice. The site is very nicely maintained and the site is very peaceful and calming.”
  • Rebecca Woolward
“This is an absolute gem! Very dog friendly, lovely coffee and great food. I will be back frequently! Not attached to the café but Waresley woods nearby (short drive) is great for dog walking.”
  • Lili
“Lovely cafe located in a beautiful estate. The latte and hot chocolate were very good, the bakes were alright but a little bit dry. The overall atmosphere is nice and relaxing. Lots of parking but it is a few mins walk from the cafe.”
  • Igors Malina
“A total breath of fresh coffee compared to the usual high-street churn. Bean Theory is tucked just off the main road and is well worth the tiny detour for a proper cup of coffee. It’s a much more authentic experience than the big franchises—definitely a hidden gem.”
  • Liv Herdman
“Great coffee and toasties. I've had sone lunches that I've preferred over others. My sister had a salad and thought it lacked dressing and could have done with seeds/ some crunch. The courtyard can be so peaceful. The crockery used is all lovely. I've been a few times and the service only lacked on the open day - this would have been due to it being busier than normal. It is such a shame that you can't explore the ground more often... need a few open days in summer at least! Definitely worth a visit.”
