About The Seaview Restaurant

On Lower Prom in Saltburn By The Sea, The Seaview Restaurant is a seafood restaurant beside the pier, where the dining room looks out over the sea, including from the window seats. The Crab Brioche is the dish that earned a feature on BBC's Remarkable Places To Eat, and it comes with fries. The kitchen also serves haddock and chips and moules marinière, and the team works from seafood landed in the surrounding waters. The building has been through a full refurbishment and extension, and a new team of chefs now runs the kitchen. Dogs are welcome, so walkers can bring them along after a stretch on the sands.

Customer Review Summary

Opinion is more divided on value and consistency. One reviewer found the haddock and chips nothing special, with a small portion of fish, overdone batter and disappointing gravy. Another called them merely adequate for a seafront fish restaurant. The fried whitebait is described as crispy but plain and unseasoned, and one diner balked at the price of the brioche for its hot dog sized portion. One notes the interior has ripped seating in need of repair, and another says the view is best when the restaurant is quiet.

“Fantastic views, lovely staff. While the food was OK, it wasnt as good as I expected. The fish and chips were, to be honest, adequate. For a fish restaurant on the edge of the sea, they should have been top class. The knickerbocker glory was, however first class.”

“I think you are mostly paying for the view here - which is very nice if the restaurant isn't busy. The fish and chips were nothing special. Filled us up after a long walk, but the fish portion was on the small side and the batter was overdone. The curry sauce was nice but the gravy wasn't great.”

“Thanks to Lisa and Eddie for an amazing dinner the night before hiking along the Coastal path in the morning. I knew about this place , sat on the terrace and was not disappointed with the service , the food , the atmosphere and view! Starter of prawns followed by capers and great desert and coffee. As an extra the next day I had to have a take away lobster roll. I will be back”

“I came here for the Crab Brioche, which was very nice, don't get me wrong, but 24.00 £ for a Hot Dog sized "snack" ist not something you will order more than once. At least not on an average salary. Even though the chips were very nice...”

“Finally took a trip to Seaview after watching THAT show a few years ago! Naturally i went for the crab brioche. It did not disappoint! Generous serving of crab in a soft and lightly toasted brioche and a decent serving of fries. Very nice. Not cheap but worth it in my view. The restaurant is beautifully situated next to the pier with views put onto the seafront. The interior is a little tired with some ripped seating in need of repair but overall a nice feel to it. Glad I went.”
