Quick info
About Rye Sushi
Rye Sushi is a family-run Japanese restaurant at 62 Cinque Ports St in Rye that also serves Korean BBQ and Korean fried chicken, so a table can order from both cuisines in one meal. The sushi and sashimi are made with fresh fish rather than frozen, and the California roll comes with crab salad and avocado. On the cooked side, the katsu curry uses breaded chicken breast, and the Korean fried chicken comes in large pieces. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and open on the other days of the week. Dogs are welcome, which suits anyone dining with a pet.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the sushi itself, praising fish that tastes fresh and fillets used instead of frozen, with one comparing it to sushi in Japan or Korea. The California crab roll with avocado comes up repeatedly, alongside the avocado hosomaki and a fish sushi option. Close behind are the hot dishes: the beef gyozas, the Korean fried chicken with huge pieces, the shrimp tempura udon ramen, and a katsu curry with moist breaded chicken breast. A kimchi, pork and tofu stew and the Korean bbq also earn mentions, and one reviewer praises the White Rioja and French rosé. Several describe lovely service, with one noting dishes adjusted to preference without fuss, and a family appreciated that the staff accepted them near closing and had no issue with a baby. The one detail raised about cost is a reviewer noting six pieces of California crab roll came to a price they felt worth stating. Two reviewers describe returning the very next day or three times in a short stretch, one of them already with three takeout orders.

“The place is beautiful and the food is delicious. I tried the avocado hosomaki and the steamed vegetarian dumplings. In addition, we had the shrimp tempura ramen udon – it was mouthwatering.”

“Visited whilst in Camber and was craving some Japanese food. Going to this restaurant was one of the best decisions I made! Food was delicious tasted fresh and lovely service .. honestly of the best meals I’ve had!! May travel back from London to have this again!!”

“I haven't had sushi this fresh and good in a long time. The hot food is great too. A stew of Kimchi, Pork and Tofoo was awesome, as was the Katsu Curry. The breaded chicken with the Katsu was proper moist breaded chicken breast - way tastier than the thin dry chicken you often get with a Katsu. The wines are great too. The White Rioja and the French Rose are both excellent. Top Marks.”

“Delicious food. We particularly enjoyed the beef gyozas (generously filled and flavoursome), the Korean fried chicken (the pieces were huge!) and the very tasty crab salad California roll. Definitely going back!”

“Amazing Korean and Japanese Restaurant. The best you’re going to get in Kent by far! Highly recommend the Korean bbq and sushi here.”
