About Finns Fish & Chip Shop

Finns Fish & Chip Shop is a takeaway fish and chip shop at 45 Clwyd St in Ruthin, working from a traditional menu. The kitchen makes its Southern fried chicken in house from a secret recipe, and it prepares a home made chicken curry that can be served over chips. Fish and chips are cooked fresh to order, and sausage comes in large or small sizes, with mushy peas and gravy as accompaniments. A queue can form outside during busy periods.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the oversized fish, with one family sharing a single portion between an adult and an eight year old and another saying it could be split to feed three. Huge, chunky chips come close behind, with one reviewer calling them crispy. The chicken curry on chips is called out of this world by one diner, and others mention a chicken leg, a burger that one reviewer was less keen on, and chips in a buttered bap. Several say the food is cooked fresh to order, and a queue and a wait at busy times come up repeatedly, though some felt it was worth it. Three reviewers were less happy. They found the fish overcooked and greasy with soggy or barely any batter, and the chips soft and oily, with one suggesting everything is cooked in the same fat. One called the atmosphere depressing and felt like an inconvenience for ordering. Happier families describe large and small sausages for the children and mushy peas and gravy alongside the fish.

“Mixed review 5 of us got food from here, first time round all in agreement it's top quality for what we got, as in pic i got the chicken curry on chips Out of this world. Went for a 2nd time, 4 out of 5 enjoyed theirs I wasn't so fussy on the burger, especially for price, but overall I'd definitely go again if I'm visiting that area again.”

“Pretty drab experience. Fish was overcooked and greasy as hell, soaked through 3 layers of paper and the batter was just soggy unfortunately. Chips were fresh and fairly good but again, overly oily. Atmosphere was depressing, I'd get more reception at a morgue. Felt like I was in inconvenience just for ordering... The wait time for what I got was not worth going again. 25/30 minutes for a large chips and a small fish and chips. Prices are fair but I'd rather go out of the way to tir a mor for the same price and get something exceptional.”

“Lovely big chunky chips with an ample size portion in a butterd bap for £3.00. Friendly and efficient service when we called mid week around tea time”
  • Ian Ross
“Probably the best chippy I have ever had. Had to wait 45 mins but was worth every minute. Huge chunky chips but crispy. Real quality fish so thick.”
