About Don Vincenzo
Don Vincenzo is a family-run Italian restaurant in Rochester with views of the Cathedral. A real Italian pizzaiolo makes the pizzas, which come in large sizes that are probably meant for two to share. The menu mixes classic and modern Italian cooking, with fish and vegetarian dishes sitting alongside the pizzas. Desserts include cannoli siciliani and panna cotta for those who want something sweet after the main course. The restaurant takes walk-ins. Mokambo coffee is also served.

Customer Review Summary
Pizza draws the strongest praise. One Italian diner calls it among the best and was pleased to see a real pizzaiolo, and another finished a whole pizza they say is sized for two. Pastas and panna cotta win praise from a diner who finds the food fairly authentic, and another singles out the cannoli siciliani. Several describe friendly, welcoming staff and a busy room, and a couple note that booking in advance helped because it fills up quickly. Opinions on the cooking are mixed. One diner found the carbonara bland and so oily it left a residue on the teeth, with spaghetti that tasted store bought, and another said the pasta was definitely not fresh. A third thought the food good but needing more flavour, and one found the chicken slightly overcooked. Service divides reviewers, with some calling it rapid and efficient and others feeling rushed, including a table served hot cokes that turned watery over ice. One table of two was told by three staff members that starters and mains must be ordered together.

“Positives: starters were delicious, atmosphere is lovely, loud but I like that everyone around is having a good time. Some staff very welcoming and happy, there was a young man, quite tall who was serving and we wish he was our server as maybe our experience may have been different! Really sad about my recent experience. When we first visited this restaurant (3 years ago) the food was amazing, we have revisited a few times since. Unfortunately on this visit, the food quality was poor, lacking freshness, definitely NOT fresh pasta, lacking flavour and just wasn’t tasty. I am so disappointed with the service, despite paying service charge, you are not allowed to order starters and then have some time to relax between courses and ordering mains. As we have always been in big groups, normally I would understand this but a table for 2, I didn’t! We were told by 3 staff members you ‘have to’ order starters and mains at the same time ( we were a table of 2!!!!!) which meant we were rushed to order, panicked and then were being asked ‘ready for the main?’ By various members of staff when in fact we wanted to just enjoy the experience of eating out. There is a strange system - only the manager takes food orders, only certain members of staff for drinks and when we asked for a drinks menu, the waitress who was clearly unhappy, did not provide the drinks menu and forgot, she seemed quite busy with other larger tables and we did feel forgotten about and then suddenly waiter bombed at all angles during eating which was inappropriate. Also, putting clean cutlery on our dirty napkins is a HUGE NO. Please just give us a fresh napkin. My experience of Italian restaurants…. Tips for success Fresh pasta please No frozen meat. Fresh sauces Pepper grinder - NEEDED! Please don’t rush the customers I regret paying service when having to get up and find staff for menus, bills, drinks. But I also empathise that the job is tough and feel some parts of the evening were ok. We spent over £100 on a starter each, two mains and two drinks each and would have expected such a treat to make you feel great. But, I’m so sad that we had a poor experience and I’m not sure why so much has changed within a short time. The love in the food is missing.”

“Great location, great service, food was okay. The food was good, but not great. It had flavour and was nice, but needed a little more flavour and love. I feel like I could have made this at home. This was the only thing slightly lacking as everything else was great, including the drinks and the choice of drinks. Nice air con inside and a great setting. If you would like to sit outside, book in advance as they get busy.”

“What a fabulous local Italian restaurant! This establishment is located in the heart of downtown Rochester on a beautiful street with wonderful views of the Cathedral. The food was simply amazing. I came in pretty late, around 8:00PM, and was greeted by the head chef and his cousin. This is a family run place, and they seem to take great care in their work. The chef recommended a starter and an entree for me and he was spot on! I don't recall what the dishes were called and I couldn't pronounce them even if I did, so you'll have to ask about them based on my pictures, but they were both amazing. I finished the whole pizza by myself because it was so delicious and im on travel, however, the pizzas are definitely sized and probably intended for two people. I think if my wife and I came here together we could have ordered the same thing, split it, and still left satisfied. I highly recommend you try this wonderful local restaurant.”

“Great place with fairly authentic Italian food; the closest you can to the real thing in Medway. Pastas are great, and panna cotta is to die for (and I do have high expectations!). Service is adequate but occasionally could be friendlier (had a grumpy waitress recently, but I'm sure this was an exception). Atmosphere is fine, not cosy, but not noisy either (unless there's live music in the bar next door). Been twice now and will definitely go back.”

“I had really high hopes after reading the reviews but left extremely disappointed. The service felt extremely rushed and we ordered cokes and they came out in the small glass bottles that were hot. So much so that when poured into the glass of ice they gave us it melted immediately leaving us with tepid watery coke. The garlic bread was as nice (making me think the pizzas would be nice) however my carbonara as boarder line inedible. It was bland and so oily it left a residue on your teeth when eating it. The spaghetti felt and tasted really cheap and store bought. My husband had the pistachio pork which was ok, but rather small and basic. The potatoes tasted deep friend and from the chippy. Overall a very disappointing meal, one which I came home and had to make myself something to eat.”
