About Caffeine & Machine: The Hut
Caffeine & Machine: The Hut is a restaurant, bar and coffee shop on West Meon Hut in Petersfield, with a car park that draws car enthusiast meets, where Mustangs, Alpines, AMGs, GTRs and RS Cosworths gather alongside regular customers. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers consistently frame this as a car meet destination first, with the rotating spread of vehicles, from Renault Alpines and Mustangs to GTRs and RS Cosworths, drawing enthusiasts back for the atmosphere and events rather than the kitchen alone. Food comes up close behind: several praise burgers and dirty fries or a dairy and nut allergy accommodation, though value is a recurring sore point, with one diner detailing a burger "half the size of my hand" served with chips for a steep price, and another finding portions smaller than expected. A service charge also catches reviewers off guard, with one describing a 10% charge already added before they unknowingly tipped again at the bar. A few long-time visitors feel the venue has grown less welcoming than the pub it replaced, and one reviewer's wife reportedly wouldn't feel comfortable dining there solo. Still, multiple reviewers cite friendly staff and respectful crowds turning up to admire the cars as reasons they'll return.

“Happened to be passing by and thought we would stop for lunch. No car meets on but an NSX and 944 added a bit of interest to the car park. The piped music was dreadful electronic noise that would on its own put us off ever returning. Saw a review by a single woman and my wife understood it - she would never come on her own. If I lived nearer I might come for a car meet but would not come just for food again. Would probably have been more enthusiastic if I were in my 20s or 30s”

“Great drive out destination. Good turn over of cars so always something to look at. Staff are friendly and love the cars turning up. Everyone is really respectful of what the place is, so no anti social behaviour as they leave etc. ...and as a bonus, food was great too. Couldn't recommend this enough for car enthusiasts.”

“Glorified car themed pub to hang out with your mates at. The worst value for money food I’ve ever seen. It’s not like it’s a gastronomical experience; it’s a glorified car pub on the side of the A272. Paid £21 for a burger half the size of my hand and and inch thick (including buns), to be paired by a serving with 35 chips. Outrageous.”

“I wouldn’t normally leave a negative review. But my experience here was not great & if I can save others from the same, I will. I’ve driven past multiple times and always wanted to stop in, today I had the time to do so. …”

“Service charge added - be aware. Lunch and drinks were very nice, served at the table which was a bonus. Wife went to the bar to pay and added a 10% tip, happy to do so although she thought it was a bit more than was expected. Only when we got home did we work it out only to find 10% had already been added before she added the tip. Don't remember seeing this displayed anywhere. Just something to remember in future.”
