About THE COFFEE SHOP
The Coffee Shop is a coffee shop in Peterborough, at 4 North St, with a menu built around homemade baking. The white chocolate and cranberry scones come as a cream tea, and the cake selection includes a coffee and walnut cake alongside a brownie. For savoury food, the kitchen makes toasties, panini, jacket potatoes and soup, plus a bacon and egg sandwich for a cooked breakfast option. Hot chocolate and milkshakes sit next to the coffee for those who want something different to drink. Cyclists pass through, and the counter staff have offered to refill water bottles.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the homemade cakes and scones, naming the white chocolate and cranberry scone, the gooey brownie, the coffee and walnut cake and a banana cake taken away. Close behind are the sandwiches, toasties and soups, with a bacon and egg sandwich and beans on toast mentioned, and several praise the coffee and a child's milkshake. Friendly, quick staff come up repeatedly, and cycling groups and visiting parties describe being welcomed, with one group saying they were treated warmly despite arriving late for booked tables. Reviewers also mention reasonable prices, good portions and not feeling rushed. The one recurring complaint is cleanliness at busy moments: one reviewer found the window tables dirty on arrival and had to ask for cleaning, then watched another couple move dirty crockery to sit down. One visitor arrived to find it closed on Good Friday. Staff offering to refill cyclists' water bottles unprompted is a detail one reviewer singled out.

“Stopped off here on the way back from a short break with my wife. Food is lovely, I had a bacon and egg sandwich and my wife had one of the white chocolate and cranberry scones. Amazing. Staff, friendly, atmosphere great. Worth us making the effort to come off the route home for somewhere independent rather than the corporate swill that is everywhere.”

“Lovely place to stop for a quick bite, nice selection of sandwiches, toasties, and ciabinis as well as other options. Great choice of tasty cakes, loved the gooey brownie and the coffee and walnut cake. Good soft and hot drink options. Would definitely visit again.”

“The Deepings NWR ladies descended on the cafe yesterday following a marvellous tour of Crowland Abbey. What a warm welcome we received despite being slightly late for our booked tables. This is a lovely asset to the town, such a friendly place with delicious cakes and meals and excellent coffee. Everyone was delighted with the cafe, service and food. Thanks very much to The Old Paper Shop. We shall be back.”

“Called in with some friends on a cycling tour on Friday morning (heat wave day). Very friendly, very clean and lovely coffee. Unprompted, as we were leaving, the staff asked if we needed to fill up our water bottles which was much appreciated. The cakes looked good too but only had breakfast an hour or so before so had to pass on those....”

“There were a few more coffee shops in Crowland. Sadly, they weren't around for very long. The Old Paper Shop has been around for a number of years. They serves delicious cakes and sandwiches. I've visited there on multiple occasions in the past. Unfortunately this time I was unaware that they are closed on Good Friday. After making the trip, I found out it was closed. I'll give it another go.”
