Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the setting, an old classic building on the river bank with a lovely view over the water, described as warm, comfy and spacious. Service is repeatedly called fast, and several found the staff friendly. Food praise centres on pizza, including a haggis topping one diner loved, along with decent portions and good value. One reviewer wanted more guest ciders. The main complaint is upkeep at busy times. Several describe tables left with used plates and glasses, empties sitting through a few pints, and one lone bartender covering a packed bar, though one reviewer felt this was a staffing problem rather than the staff's fault. A small order of chips arrived as only sixteen chips for one diner. Another reviewer's freedom breakfast came with rock solid fried eggs, a cold sausage and rubbery bacon, and the replacement arrived exactly the same.

“The bar maintained its standard, as others under the same chain. Parking facilities are bad. Meter parkings are in 1hr max restrictions. It's virtually impossible to restrain your visit here in an hour. How does local council think about promoting local businesses.”

“The freshest and most decent portioned food we have had in any weatherspoons.. hence the 4 stars. Also, surprisingly for the company the toilets were so clean. I would have gave less due to the uncleanliness but I think this is standard for any weatherspoons and for how busy it was, it's no wonder tables were filled with food plates and glasses.. you need to employ more staff to support eachother in these fast pace working environments. It did take me ages to find one clean menu.. in fact the ones I found were wet with beer but at least no food that I could see. I asked staff for help but how could she help when she was the only one behind a busy bar. Really sad for the staff and not their fault really. Thanks”

“As usual you see a wetherspoons and think why not. This place is set within an amazing building and surroundings. Unfortunately there ended our pleasant experience. When we walked in and looked for a seat, tables were sitting with used plates, glasses, food. Disgusting is the only description. To get a seat i had to ask for the table to be cleaned. Behind us was a booth that had a high chair and needless to say food on the floor. This booth sat for 2 hours without being cleaned. 12 sets of people looked and walked away. 6 sets of these people actually left in disgust. Eventually a group of older men cleaned it themselves. This was only 1 table. There were multiple. The staff looked busy lifting empty plates and moving them to another table then walking away. Staff delivering food walked past full tables and went empty handed to the kitchen. I had 3 pints and the empties sat on our table until we left. Not one member of staff decided to clear our empties as they delivered a fresh pint. Also I asked a member of staff was she busy? To be told "I only have an hour left and the least I can do the better". Oh to be a secret shopper. This was not what we expected. Oh and my wife ordered a small chip. 16 of them to be exact was delivered. No thought put into portion size. Well for us anyway.”

“Ordered freedom breakfast with some extra bacon, fried egg and a sausage. When it came out all 3 fried eggs were rock solid, the sausage was cold inside and the bacon was rubbery. I asked for a new breakfast and it came out the same. Fried eggs hard, hard cold rubbery bacon. Luke warm sausage. Manager close to finishing her shift so I did t want to bother her again but I’ve got the impression that she didn’t care now. I ate some of it. I will never return here again.”

“I recently visited The Capital Asset by J D Wetherspoon and had a very pleasant experience. The pub has a welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, and a wide selection of food and drinks at reasonable prices. The food was served quickly, was well prepared, and offered good value for money. The building itself is spacious and comfortable, making it a great place to relax with friends or family. Overall, I would happily visit again and recommend it to others.”
