About Dirty Bones Oxford
Dirty Bones Oxford is an American restaurant in Oxford, on the top floor of the Westgate at 304 The Westgate. The room takes its design from 1970s Brooklyn, with retro-modern touches, a large feature bar, a drinks lounge and an open kitchen, and an old school funk and soul playlist runs through it. The menu is New York-inspired comfort food built around burgers, including the Wagyu Burger and the Mac Daddy Burger. Tacos and a mac & cheese starter sit alongside them, and doughnuts come as dessert. Mains arrive without a side, so sides are ordered separately. The bar pours cocktails and mocktails. The team accommodates halal and nut-allergy requirements.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the burgers, from the Wagyu Burger to the OG chicken burger and the Mac Daddy with its pulled beef, described as juicy and well cooked. Close behind are the chicken and beef tacos, the short ribs, which one diner calls tender and rich, the wings and the fried chicken. The doughnuts earn their own praise, with one reviewer calling them light as air. Cocktails and mocktails are called really good, and portions are generous enough that one party couldn't finish their order. Service draws repeated warmth, with servers helping with halal and nut allergy requirements. The main complaints are modest: service that was a bit slow at times, especially waiting for the bill, and mains that come without sides, which have to be ordered separately. Birthday visits recur, and several diners describe a complimentary dessert and a free drink arriving unasked.

“Had a great time at Dirty Bones Oxford! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was brilliant, and a special thanks to Graz, who looked after us so well. Friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Thanks, Graz and the Dirty Bones team, we’ll definitely be back!”

“A mostly positive experience here. It was very quiet when me and my friend came this Thursday evening, but the atmosphere was nice. The staff were very friendly and greeted us courteously. And the service was relatively quick but it could have been a bit quicker considering how empty it was. The food itself was pretty good. I really did enjoy it but I'm having to remove one star as I don't feel like the hygiene standards in this business are up to quality. When entering the gents toilets I was greeted by a horrific sight, a biological deposit from another man. This is not very nice for restaurant visitors to see, as I was only taking a toilet break halfway through my meal. I feel as if the restaurant needs to clean the toilets more regularly or at least check them. It is appalling that that was left there. Apart from that a mostly positive experience.”

“First time coming to this place by multiple recommendations and it was worth ittt! Carmen was very quick, knowledgeable and friendly. Recommended what’s halal friendly for my friend. Food was prepared fast and was super delicious. Mocktails were also very tasty. Would definitely come back.”

“We went to Dirty Bones Oxford as an extended birthday celebration. It's the first time we have eaten in any of these restaurants and we were very pleased with the experience overall. The service was great. All of the staff were very professional and friendly and made the meal/experience feel very relaxed. They all took the time to wish me a happy birthday and made conversation when they brought the food/drinks over - which I really like and will will make me choose to go there again. The food was amazing and great value. The Mac & cheese small plate/starter would have been fine as a main course! I was a bit worried that the mains didn't come with a side dish, you had to order that separately but we actually couldn't finish all of the food we ordered (2 starters. 2 mains and 2 sides in total). I had booked to use the FWB member birthday reward but was surprised with a complimentary cocktail (alcohol free) and a free dessert with a candle that we hadn't ordered which was a really lovely touch (and the most amazing doughnut I've ever had - it was so light it was like eating air!!). We'll definitely be heading there again, it is by far one the best meals I've had in Oxford for a while.”

“Raff’s customer service was absolutely top notch! 🙌 My fiancée surprised me with a birthday dinner here and Raff instantly made the whole experience feel welcoming, fun, and special from the moment we walked in. We were greeted with a complimentary shot of the good stuff 🥃 and even got free dessert on the house 🍰 - such a lovely touch! And let’s talk about that Wagyu Burger… WOW 🤤🔥 Easily one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time. Massive thank you to Raff and the team at Dirty Bones for making my birthday such a great experience. We’ll 100% be back… and hopefully Raff will be serving us again! 👏🍔”
