About The Old Original Inn
The Old Original Inn is an independently owned bar and grill on Thurston Clough Rd in Oldham. The kitchen serves rag pudding with chips, mushy peas and gravy, and the menu also includes steak and cheese pie and cheese and onion pie. A specials board sits alongside the main menu, and the soups are homemade, with tomato and roast pepper among them. A five-dish tapas deal runs at set times each week. At the bar, the drinks list covers premium lagers, hand-pulled real ale and a wine list. The terrace looks out over views in summer, while a log fire and candlelit tables fill the room in winter.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the rag pudding with chips, mushy peas and gravy, with one diner calling the peas and homemade chips delicious. Close behind are the pies, steak and cheese and cheese and onion, plus the homemade soups, tomato and roast pepper and pea and ham. The Sunday roast beef, tender lamb special, sirloin and fillet steaks, lasagne and biscoff cheesecake also earn praise, along with generous portions and food served piping hot. The tapas deal with meatballs, patatas bravas and beef in red wine draws mentions too, and several reviewers say the staff handled busy nights well. The complaints are small but specific. One found the mashed potato bland, not buttery or creamy, and another thought the chicken bhuna too spicy. A third table had to ask for a spoon with the leek soup and for a knife and fork with the mains. One reviewer also found a waitress a little disengaged. A reviewer who booked ahead for a group of six noted the place is small, and the fixed price menu is called very reasonable. One diner who finished with chocolate fudge cake said the gravy had a rich, meaty flavor.

“An unforgettable 50th birthday celebration. The food was outstanding, and the manager went above and beyond — attentive, warm, and clearly invested in making our night special. One small note: a waitress seemed a little disengaged, but it barely touched the experience. We’d happily return for any celebration. Thank you!”

“Staff upon arrival on point, calm atmosphere, and the food wow we have visited here five times now and every time the food has been amazing. Fresh, home cooked food, and the portion size is wow but so good you try your best to finish it. Price wize absolutely worth it and more Would highly recommend”

“everything you look for in a country pub, warm, cosy oozing atmosphere. We came for dinner at 7pm on a Saturday, we pre booked as there were 6 of us and the place is quite small. Me and my sister had the days special which was lovely tender lamb with creamy mash potatoes and vegetables, and lashings of gravy. The others had the steak and cheese pie and the cheese and onion pie. All the food was delicious and plentiful, the wine too 😊 highly recommend”

“First time at the Old Original, but will certainly going there again (soon?). We had a meal there yesterday evening (pre-booked) and they were busy with a couple of large groups. That didn't detract from the experience, however, as the bar and counter staff ran the service brilliantly! As for the food... it's legendary for it's quality and generosity! That's why we booked, and it didn't let us down. I'll be trying to work out that mustard sauce in my kitchen soon!”

“A cosy country inn, independently owned, serving delicious food and an excellent range of premium lagers and hand-pulled real ale together with an interesting wine list at realistic prices. In summer there are stunning views from the terrace, in winter you are welcomed by a roaring log fire and candlelit tables. Customers enthuse about the friendly service and atmosphere.”
