About Choi's Restaurant
Choi's Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant on North Street East in Oakham, with a fish pond inside the dining room and a design styled after the classical era of the emperors. The team caters for small tables and for large groups of up to 80 people. The set menu comes as a set feast for two or a set meal for one, running from a starter through crispy duck to mains, with Chinese tea, coffee or regular tea alongside. Half crispy duck arrives with pancakes and cucumber, and chicken noodle soup is on hand as a starter. The restaurant is fully licensed and pours traditional Chinese beer, red, white and rose wine, sparkling wine and champagne for special occasions. It also serves late-night diners. A public car park sits directly opposite.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the set menu, with one describing a feast of chicken noodle soup, half crispy duck with pancakes, sizzling fillet steak, sweet and sour pork and spicy chicken, and another ordering a set menu for one with extra dishes. Close behind is the service, called excellent and not rushed, and food described as fresh, hot and quickly served. Others single out beef in chilli and black bean sauce, vegetable chow mein and shared short ribs, which stayed hot on the trip back to a hotel after a late meal. A regular of many years compares it to Mr Pangs, and one family mentions a fish pond their child loved. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who found the salt and pepper chicken undercooked and unseasoned, the duck chewy and missing hoisin sauce, and received normal chips instead of the salt and pepper chips requested. Another diner took a star off for a very cold draught from an open door or window on a freezing evening. Several say they plan to return, one as part of an annual trip.

“Just wonderful!! The food was first class along with perfect service. It was all beautifully cooked and presented. I only took one star off the last category because there was a very cold draught from an open door or window, and it was a freezing cold evening. Apart from that niggle, it was superb and we will be going back regularly.”

“Oakham seems to have no Chinese restaurants...so we drove to Uppingham, 5 miles away and we are so glad we did. The food and service at this diner was fantastic! We had the set feast meal* for 2 persons at £22 pp. Extensive menu with lots of options. *Chicken noodle soup starters, followed by half crispy duck - pancake rolls, cucumber etc, mains included egg fried rice, thinly sliced fillet steak sizzling dish - delicious, sweet and sour pork, spicy chicken all cooked to a high tasty standard. We had Chinese tea, but coffee or normal tea available with set meal. Complementary prawn crackers. Lovely clean decor, attentive service not rushed and dining tables nicely spaced out. We will definitely return this time next year...as part of our annual trip to Oakham. Highly recommended!”
