Quick info
About Kwai Chin
Kwai Chin is a Chinese takeaway at 15 Market St in Newtown. The kitchen makes a special fried rice packed with meat, and a chef specials menu adds new items. Shredded beef and shredded chicken are cooked in Hoi Sin sauce, and a set menu for 3 gives a ready-made order for a small group. The Chinese food goes out in large pots. The shop sits not far off the beaten track, which makes it a stop for people driving. Forks and chopsticks come with the order.

Customer Review Summary
Generous portions are what reviewers raise most. One describes a special fried rice so packed with meat that they wondered where the rice was, and another had leftovers from a set menu for three despite good appetites. Close behind is the food itself, with shredded beef described as thick and crispy, succulent prawns, and shredded chicken in Hoi Sin sauce. Several welcome the newer chef specials, and a long-time customer notes a return to some old recipes. Regulars say they have ordered for 15 and even 30 years, and one calls in at least once a month. Staff are described as polite, friendly and welcoming, with quick service and food that arrives hot. A few call it reasonably priced, and holidaymakers and drivers passing through report getting far more food than from their usual Chinese. One of them adds that the staff even included forks and chopsticks with the order.

“While on holiday in Wales from Brighton, we came across the menu for this Chinese takeaway in our cabin and decided to give it a try. Without a doubt, it's the best Chinese takeaway I've ever had by a country mile. The food quality was exceptional, and the service was second to none. The special fried rice was so generously packed with meat that I genuinely wondered where the rice was! The prawns were succulent, and the shredded beef was thick, crispy, and cooked exactly as it should be. The only downside to the entire experience is that I live four hours away. If this place were closer to home, I'd be ordering from them every week. Highly recommended!”
