Customer Review Summary
The carvery is what reviewers return to most, with turkey, ham, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and cocktail sausages praised as tasty and plentiful, and one calling it the best carvery they had ever had. A takeaway carvery at Easter arrived boxed separately. Close behind is the veggie burger with chunky chips, described as fresh and delicious, alongside general praise for food that arrived without delays on a busy day. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, checking on tables for extra drinks, and one group says the team went out of its way to serve an elderly visitor chips by the fire even though food was not being served that day. The atmosphere gets credit for comedy night, a back room party with its own bar, and matches on screen at the front bar. The one complaint comes from a reviewer who found the bar full of people wanting to watch World Cup matches, with flags up but little effort made to accommodate them.

“Attended an 18th birthday party which was set up in back room, great food, music, its own bar too! Lots of space and very accommodating staff. Food was really good too. Bar area out front was good too, had a match playing that night too.”

“From the staff, the atmosphere , food and drinks we can't rate this place highly enough. My son , partner & kids had dined here the Sunday before I arrived and raved about their overall experience that we decided to go along again the following Saturday which was excellent so we went again on Sunday for the carvery which did not disappoint 👏 😀 it was by far the best carvery I'd ever had . We can't recommend The Anchor and staff highly enough , first class , thank you so much and we'll definitely be back when we next visit Newcastle 😀”

“Take the world cup flags down if you're not going to cater for world cup matches. The bar was full of people wanting to watch the football and you made little effort to accommodate. Don't waste your time responding with silly excuses. We know exactly what you were doing. Brutal.”
