About Nairn Tandoori

On High St in Nairn, Nairn Tandoori is an Indian restaurant that opens daily, evenings only. The kitchen cooks lamb and chicken curries, with butter chicken and dhansak on the menu, and saag paneer for those who want it. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but guests can bring their own drinks to have with their meal, so the table can be set up to suit the group. Garlic naan comes alongside the curries, and a mushroom bhaji is listed as a side.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often praise the flavourful curries and generous portions, with one reviewer calling a starter nearly a meal by itself. Dhansak with a side of mushroom bhaji, garlic naan, lamb, chicken, papadoms, chutneys and a standout lime pickle all draw specific praise, and several describe friendly, polite staff and steady pacing even when busy. The complaints carry real weight, though. A loyal regular of several years found a takeaway dish with barely cooked onions and no flavour, mostly left uneaten. Another said the butter chicken tasted like a korma with sliced tandoori chicken mixed through, and the saag paneer was lukewarm and short on spice. One takeaway container held mostly sauce with very little chicken. A few note no lassi, chai or alcohol, though bringing your own drink is allowed. One reviewer reports poor hygiene and stale food. Another says a waiter cleared the table, including their unfinished naan, while they were still eating.

“This is a great spot if you’re looking for Indian food. We really enjoyed this dinner. The service was quick and friendly, making the whole experience enjoyable. “Food: fabulous, good portions, lamb was tender, chicken delicious. Service: rude. I was still eating when the waiter started clearing the table. I managed to get another bit of my unfinished naan before he took that too. Obviously wanted rid of us as quickly as possible, so no tip, no after-dinner drinks, no dessert, paid and left pronto. Won’t be back in a hurry.”

“Really nice food, portion size was big. My starter was nearly a meal by its self. Staff were very polite and helpful. I woukd eat there again👍”

“This is a Bangladeshi restaurant. Food tastes nothing like Indian food. Most of the so called Indian restaurants in and around Inverness are Bangladeshi restaurants. Food tastes bad, hygiene is worse.. It’s saddening to see as an Indian that these phoneys are serving horrible stale food in the name of Indian cuisine!!”

“I always have a really good meal at Nairn Tandoori. Nothing over the top, just good well cooked Indian food in a relaxed setting. The curries have a good depth of flavour and portions are generous. Service was friendly and everything came out at a steady pace even when it was busy. Overall, it’s a reliable local spot if you’re in Nairn and want a good Indian meal...”
