About The Cawdor Tavern
The Cawdor Tavern is a family-run country pub and restaurant in the village of Cawdor, near Nairn, a short walk from the castle. The kitchen works with fresh, local produce, and the menu includes fish and chips with a gluten-free version, haggis and tatties, and sticky toffee pudding that also comes as a banana version. Reservations are required. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and dogs are welcome in the pub. Outside, a garden patio is used for drinks and meals in summer, and fireside tables carry the meals through the cooler months.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips come up most often, including a gluten free version that delighted a family coeliac, and one family pairs it with kids' burgers that had the children asking to return. Close behind are the black pudding scotch eggs, with one diner thrilled to find a proper Scotch egg alongside traditional haggis and tatties. Reviewers also name the venison sausage, lemon sole, scallops, steak and ale pie, and a Chicken of the Wood mushroom starter with goats curd and tarragon. Desserts draw steady praise, especially the sticky toffee pudding, banana sticky toffee, raspberry cranachan and strawberry cheesecake. Staff are described as friendly and welcoming, and several mention the cosy country pub feel and that dogs are welcome. The one clear complaint is a Sunday roast beef dinner that arrived luke warm, as if it had sat on the serving hatch before reaching the table, though that same reviewer found the starter and sweet really, really good.

“Went for the Sunday roast. The starter and sweet were really, really good. The roast beef dinner was spoilt by it being luke warm, as if it had spent 10 minutes on the serving hatch before being brought to the table. Real shame, as it would have been excellent otherwise.”

“A spur of the moment Saturday family lunch was, once again, excellent. A special treat was the Chicken (or Hen) of the Wood mushroom served with goats curd and tarragon - seasonal, local, delicious and something different. GF fish and chips delighted the family coeliac, and the banana sticky toffee disappeared into another family member as if the two preceding courses were just an amuse bouche! We think that the menu is even better than last time and the friendly atmosphere remains a delight. Needless to say, we will be back and are lucky to have somewhere like this so relatively close.”

“Absolutely love this place. Since moving to Nairn we've been a few times and really enjoy the food and drink. The staff are welcoming and attentive. The location is beautiful and they're dog friendly too. This has become our go to place. Highly recommended 5* thank you.”

“We are staying in ardensier and found this lovely place to eat and drink. Its only a short walk from the castle and if you have dogs. They are plenty of walks ans streams that can keep them entertained. Lovely staff, very welcoming and informative. Will return before we go home”

“We had one of the best meals here during our trip around Scotland, thank you! Everything was really tasty - the scallops, fish&chips, kids burgers and strawberry cheesecake 😋 The even kids asked if we could come back the next day :)”
