About JASPERS BISTRO
Jaspers Bistro is a seafood restaurant at 8 Bridge St in Morpeth, with a dining room of about four tables and jazz playing in the room. The kitchen cooks seafood to order and works from a specials board built around local availability and the catch of the day. Dishes include fish pie and crab and prawn risotto. The bar holds a collection of more than 100 bottled whiskies, which gives whisky drinkers plenty to choose from. The drinks list also covers cocktails like the Lychee Martini, along with wines and champagne. With so few tables, reservations are required. Dogs are welcome, and they are given water and homemade biscuits.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the fish pie, described as creamy and rich with tender, perfectly cooked fish, with the prawn cocktail close behind. Others single out the crab and prawn risotto, seafood bouillabaisse, sea bass, a chicken liver starter and sardines with lobster. The specials board built on local catch is repeatedly praised, and the blood orange dessert and doughnuts get mentions too. Diners describe a very small, intimate room with only a handful of tables, and several suggest booking ahead. Service is called friendly and welcoming, with the hosts giving recommendations on what to order. Several dog owners say their dogs were given treats, water or a homemade biscuit. The one complaint is a wait of well over an hour between starters and mains. Meals end with touches like a birthday candle in a dessert and a locally made almond rum liqueur.

“Attentive friendly staff, Billy our cocker spaniel was spoiled too, with clean fresh water and a treat. Chicken liver starter was so delicious, my fish pie was creamy rich with tender perfectly cooked pieces of fish. Went for our 40th wedding anniversary and it was the highlight of our Northumberland holiday. Thank you Jaspers, highly recommended!”

“A fantastic restaurant, our first visit, but we will definitely be back. Great service and interaction with the staff. The dishes were first class, nice balanced flavours and textures. They even gave us a homemade biscuit for each of our dogs! Nice touch at the end of the meal with a locally made almond rum liqueur as well. Brilliant.”

“A birthday treat for my partner on a Northumberland road trip. So amazing. Fabulous beautifully presented food, delicious wine and wonderful owners. Great selection of music too. My partner even got a birthday candle in his dessert!. Can’t recommend highly enough, but as there are only four tables booking is recommended for the evening. Worth the drive from Whitby. Thank you so much :)”

“Jaspers is a lovely little restaurant with a fantastic menu. It’s a real celebration of fish and seafood, with plenty of choice and a great specials board. Main meals are around £25-£30 and I highly recommend the Crab and Prawn Risotto, a lovely light and fresh dish with plenty of flavour. The doughnuts are definitely worth trying - if you can fit them in! The restaurant is quite small, so book in advance. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and it’s a great place to go for a meal if you’re looking to try some really good fish and seafood. They are also dog friendly.”

“We had an amazing evening at Jaspers celebrating our daughter's birthday. The seafood is phenomenal and the service is exceptional. Very small and intimate setting but that adds to the very friendly atmosphere. The specials board offers local fresh produce. For our mains we had the seafood risotto, sea bass and seafood bouillabaisse - which were all presented and cooked to perfection. The starters and blood orange dessert were all delicious too. Melanie the host was the friendliest, warmest lady offering us lots of advise on what to eat and very attentive all night. Recommend booking well in advance as very popular. It's a shame we live 4 hours away! Thank you Ryan and Melanie for an exceptional evening.”
