About Batsford Garden Terrace Cafe
Batsford Garden Terrace Cafe is a restaurant in Moreton In Marsh, on Batsford Arboretum, set in a garden centre next to the arboretum with a terrace that overlooks the nursery. Service is canteen style. Food is ordered in a queue at the counter and collected from there, while a separate drinks-only till sits at the far end. Hot meals include soup, foccacia and a fish dish with seasonal vegetables and new potatoes, and the menu also covers hot paninis and sandwiches, packet ones among them. Coffees, teas, hot chocolate and pastries are served, and cakes are displayed before the cashier. Hot food starts later in the day, so the earlier hours are for drinks only. The cafe takes walk-ins, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the hot drinks, with an excellent variety of coffees, teas and hot chocolate enjoyed on a terrace that overlooks the nursery. Close behind are the sweet and savoury bakes. One describes a moist fruit, orange and cherry cake and chunky sandwiches, and another a good variety in generous portions. Others call the cake dry, the lemon cake sandy and a cookie too hard to snap. Price is the most recurring complaint, with a tuna sandwich, paninis and hot plates all called too expensive for a self serve cafe. Queues draw repeated criticism. Reviewers describe drinks-only customers stuck in the food line, a food order refused a few minutes before noon, and a cashier who repeatedly told one customer to move a tray, leaving her in tears. Staff are otherwise called pleasant, helpful and hard working, and the foccacia and soup are liked. Dog owners say the room was nearly empty. One group of three received luke warm fish on cold plates, and management offered complimentary cake.

“Pleasant staff, not a massive choice of food. Hot meals look nice but too expensive for a cafe. Got a packet sandwich at £5.50, hot paninis were £9.95 and hot plates (quiche & potatoes etc) £15.95, soup £8.25.”

“If you're a dog owner, you'll love it here! You practically have the entire place to yourself! Unfortunately the food is incredibly overpriced, a tuna sandwich was over £5! And the bread was beyond stale! One cake was better, fruit, orange and cherry, very moist. The lemon cake I think was made solely with polenta or ground almonds. It disintegrated in your mouth like sand! The staff seem lovely and very hard working. Total disorganisation behind the counter. If you want hot drinks/drinks only then use the far end till, which you will only discover when you've queued for ages with everyone waiting for food! If you like a fresh bread sandwich and not in a dog filled atmosphere where they bark at each other as much as the people chat, this will not be for you! 🙉”

“Over priced drinks and cakes. Cakes so dry. Cookie (£4) was ridiculously hard, we struggled to snap it in half. Don’t waste your money.”

“Having visited on many occasions over the years, the food and service is always first class. The plants in the garden centre are well priced and they have an excellent range.”

“Lovely cafe with nice warm dishes! The foccacia and the soup was great :)!having the cakes before the cashier could have been better and had to wait quite a lot but it was lovely! Having more staff and better queuing system would help a lot! (If only cold dishes you can go straight to cashier etc)”
