Quick info
About Clare and Bob’s Tearoom
Clare and Bob's Tearoom is a coffee shop in Monmouth, a few yards off the Main Street at 4 The Beaufort Arms Hotel. Anyone avoiding gluten can order a full English made with gluten-free sausages and bread, alongside gluten-free sandwiches, and the kitchen runs cross-contamination processes to support those orders. Breakfast covers a full fry up plus bacon and sausage baps and a bagel with bacon and cream cheese, while lunch brings a ploughman's and sandwiches such as smoked salmon and cream cheese. Scones are baked in the morning and served warm, in cheese and apricot versions, and they sit alongside an afternoon tea that the team can also put together in a children's version. The menu runs to 52 dishes in total. Tables are walk-in, with no reservations taken, and dogs are welcome to come in with their owners. It trades Tuesday to Sunday during the daytime, closing on Mondays, and cakes can be boxed up to take home at the end of a meal.

Customer Review Summary
Afternoon tea draws the most praise, with reviewers singling out the freshly made scones, soft and still warm from the oven, alongside sandwiches such as smoked salmon and cream cheese. One reviewer says a child's version was made for a daughter, who devoured it. Close behind are the cheese scone, apricot scones and the cakes, which one diner bought to take away and found boxed to perfection. Breakfast also earns mention, including a full English that one coeliac reviewer found reassuring for its cross-contamination processes, with gluten free sausages and bread as standouts. Others cite a gluten free sandwich served with care, the ploughman's, and toasted sandwiches, and reviewers describe friendly service and the place as dog friendly. The one critical review concerns the coffee, where a reviewer asked for a black coffee and received what they called a towering, unstable bucket of brown dishwater, and wanted proper filter coffee. Another reviewer, by contrast, praises the locally sourced coffee and an iced coffee. One diner closes on a hot scone arriving when a tepid one was expected.

“Can't recommend this place enough! We stopped in for a full English breakfast in the morning and had one of the best fry ups I've had in a very long time. I'm a coeliac and so requested a gluten free full English, and felt very reassured and comforted by the cross-contamination processes in place. Everybody was so friendly and the food was delicious (gluten free sausages and bread were the standouts for me!)”

“When one asks for a 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞, one expects a steaming mug of 𝒃𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌 aromatic liquid, not a towering, unstable bucket of brown dishwater. For pity's sake, serve decent 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲. …”

“Stopped here for a light lunch. A great find - and DOG FRIENDLY ! My wife & I enjoyed toasted sandwich each. Food well presented and great quality . Service was excellent . Highly recommended and worth walking a few yards off the Main Street to find this establishment tucked away .”

“Visited the tea room today, after traveling through Monmouth I found this little gem on Google and it did not disappoint. The food was lovely and plenty of it too. They even made a little afternoon tea for my daughter who loved it. When we are back this way we will definitely come back. Thank you.”
