About Kokoro
Kokoro is a Japanese restaurant in Milton Keynes, found at 18 Midsummer Place Shopping Centre. The menu centres on rice boxes and rice bowls, with sweet chilli chicken as the main option. Korean chilli chicken comes with steamed rice, and pumpkin katsu curry covers the katsu side for those who skip meat. Noodle dishes sit alongside the rice, so there is a choice of base. Each dish comes in a regular or large portion. A queue forms at times.

Customer Review Summary
Sweet and chilli chicken is the dish reviewers raise most, described as sticky, flavourful and tender, with rice that soaks up the sauce and a regular tub that looks small but fills. Close behind are the Korean chilli chicken and pork with steamed rice, the pumpkin katsu curry, teriyaki chicken and salmon rice bowl, and a salmon nigiri and rice noodle soup. Several praise the big portions, and one notes the gyozas can be ordered in a pair. Others mention a soft cheesecake that was fluffy but not very sweet, and noodles that had been microwaved. The recurring complaint is customer service. One reviewer says a server kept chatting with co-workers while the only waiting customer went unserved, and another found the server unfriendly while saying portions are shrinking as prices rise. One reviewer also dislikes that bottled soy sauce is gone, leaving small sachets that are hard to open and add plastic, and another notes limited indoor seating and a long queue. Some do describe the staff as friendly, and one had tofu and sauce packed separately for a picnic.

“I get that staff are tired but the customer service provided was really poor. I had this young Asian guy serve me my sweet chilli chicken and was not nice when serving me. Their food is great but customer service wise is not the best and the portion seize is getting smaller even when prices has increased. Hope they take this into action.”

“One of my favourite dishes - their korean chilli chicken and tofu with katsu - so good! Last time we wanted to go on a picnic but was worried the crispy tofu will go soggy so asked for the tofu right on top and sauce at bottom and shout out to Ben (? Was working on 18 July) who agreed but also suggested and gave me the sauce in a separate pot to travel better! He was a delight to deal with and does Kokoro proud. Great portions, great flavour, great prices.”

“Sweet and chilli chicken was really good—tub looked small but it was filling. Sticky, flavourful chicken with just enough spice, and the rice soaked up the sauce nicely. Long queue, but worth it.”

“I eat most weeks here, favourite dish is the Korean Chilli Pork with steamed rice - sweet, tangy and spicy, good amount of meat and sauce, rice is well cooked - sticky but not too squishy, staff are friendly enough (not that I talk to them much normally…), bright and clean if not that inviting a space, sometimes busy, sometimes not. Compared to the store in Reading I think they cook the food better here!”

“I bought a Sweet Chili chicken rice bowl last Monday. It was only regular but wow it was big serving! And delicious and hot. The staff were very friendly and polite. I would definitely come back and try other dishes, or maybe Sweet Chili chicken as it was so good!”
