About The Harbourmaster

The Harbourmaster is a bar and grill in Milford Haven, set on the harbourfront along the Marina with views out over the water. The building holds both a bar and a restaurant, and the menu runs from fish and chips to ribs and tacos. Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the generous portions, with a family describing pork and ribs so tender they could not finish them, and others naming tacos, pasta, scampi, a huge portion of mussels, perfect plaice and fish and chips. Close behind is the harbourfront setting, with several mentioning seats looking out over the water or outside, and service described as great and helpful, including a kitchen-closing-time seating and advice on avoiding a chicken allergy. One reviewer appreciated being able to bring a dog inside, and a group of 13 for an 18th birthday found the pre-ordered food arrived hot. The complaints are specific. One diner says the lemon sole tasted strongly fishy with an ammonia-like flavour, and that the chef called it personal taste, then took the plate away without a replacement or refund, offering only a drink or dessert. Another found the doors closed and staff mopping at 21:50 despite listed opening until midnight. A few note that unbooked guests get seated in the bar, and that first come, first served tables left larger groups waiting while couples took large tables, though the wait was short.

“Disappointing experience We ordered lemon sole, but unfortunately the fish we were served did not taste fresh. It had an unusually strong fishy taste, followed by a very unpleasant ammonia/urine-like taste. I have eaten lemon sole many times before, so I know that it should not taste like this. We raised the issue with the restaurant, but the chef insisted that it was simply a matter of personal taste because the fish had been delivered fresh on Monday. However, the fact that the fish was delivered on Monday does not necessarily mean that every individual piece is guaranteed to be fresh and of good quality. The restaurant eventually took the fish away, but did not offer a replacement or a refund. We were only offered a drink or dessert instead. Very disappointing, especially because we were not complaining simply because we didn’t like the taste. The fish had a distinctly unpleasant taste that we felt was not normal for fresh lemon sole. I hope the restaurant will take complaints about food quality more seriously in the future.”

“What a very charming spot! We got there ten minutes before the kitchen closed- this is usually where service lacks but they were so nice and so helpful! The food was great! The service great and I’m so glad we found a place in a Sunday night to have a nice dinner with great staff at a beautiful location!”

“Lovely location, great service and more importantly great food. Sat looking out over the water.”

“A lovely location along the harbourfront. There is both a bar and restaurant but unless you book, the default is to seat people in the bar for food. This kind of ruins the bar vibe, as in it feels a bit weird to go for a drink only, but there is an outdoor area which is more casual.”

“Called in for an evening drink, and ended up having a meal. Lovely scampi, a huge portion of mussels, perfect plaice, and good old fish and chips. Great service, and great advice on what to avoid with a chicken allergy.”
