Customer Review Summary
Generous portions, especially the desserts, are what reviewers raise most, with a cheesecake on the Christmas Fair set menu and the huge puddings at Sunday lunch singled out. Steaks cooked to perfection and a plate of scampi and chips with a portion that was just right also earn praise. Friendly staff, a warm atmosphere and a welcome for dogs come up close behind, along with real ales on tap. Sunday lunch splits opinion, though. One diner found the roast beef tough, the Yorkshire puddings hard and dense, and the mash school-dinner style, while another called the service very slow. A separate review describes the food as overcooked and bland, with staff who seemed disinterested, and one notes items missing from the menu and staff discussions that could be overheard. Several visitors still describe a relaxed old thatched pub, and when one party's table booking could not be found, staff quickly arranged seating.

“Our experience, Sunday lunch 2 Aug 26, was poor. Food quality was very mixed. The steaks were ok, the roast beef tough. I had the spinach tart and least said the better. The yorkshire puddings were hard, dense and very difficult to cut. The sunday lunch plates had 2 roast potatoes and a large dollop of "school" mash. All came covered with gravy. The red cabbage was very sweet, the carrots and cauliflower were ok. The service was very, very slow. No one asked if anyone had allergies. They do. So, all in all, cannot recommend a visit.”

“Called in on spec for a drink and some food whilst out for a bike ride with my wife. Despite not booking in advance and them being busy, we were happily accommodated. The staff were very friendly and we were made to feel welcome. Enjoyed a very nice meal and a drink each (some nice real ales on tap, but we did have to cycle home so had to be restrained 😎). We sat outside to enjoy the last of the evening sun and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly both inside and out. We were well looked after by the very polite staff and enjoyed the whole experience. A great end to our afternoon. Times are very challenging for small businesses, especially rural pubs and restaurants and I think the owners and staff here deserve some support and credit where it's due.”

“A few items missing from the menu. Large portion sizes for the money. Food was really tasty and enjoyable. Could hear internal staff discussions which shouldnt be overheard by customers. Overall good experience and food was great.”

“Popped in for a spot of lunch and we're delighted by what we found, loved the location. The atmosphere was good even though it wasn't overly busy and we didn't have to wait long before the food arrived. It was only scampi and chips but both of us remarked how good it was and how the portion size was just right. We'd read good things about The King's Head and weren't disappointed. We'll definitely be back to try the Sunday lunch sometime soon.”
