About Sushi Mami

Sushi Mami is a sushi restaurant on Portland St in Manchester, built around an all-you-can-eat Japanese menu that guests order by tablet at the table. Orders go in rounds of 4 items per person every 15 minutes, which sets the pace for the meal. The restaurant has two sections, a buffet-style all-you-can-eat option and an a la carte menu, so diners can choose the format that suits them. The all-you-can-eat selection includes sashimi and teppanyaki, with prawn tempura among the hot dishes served alongside the sushi. The kitchen also prepares homemade desserts to finish.

Customer Review Summary

Not every visit lands, though. A few find dishes bland, naming the yaki soba, the teriyaki chicken and some a la carte plates, and one regular says to skip the chicken mains and order another meat or veggie. That same regular notes the all you can eat order sometimes comes out wrong. The sharpest complaint is slowness. On a quiet evening one diner waited a long while for a carton cranberry juice, dishes were held back and sent out together, and the crispy beef arrived freezing cold, with the promised replacement never brought.

“Great Chinese restaurant! 🇨🇳🥢✨ 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The ingredients were incredibly fresh and the quality was excellent. Every dish we tried was absolutely amazing — full of flavour and beautifully prepared. 😍 Definitely a must-try if you love Chinese cuisine. Highly recommended! 🔥”

“The food that I had ordered was very nice, I enjoyed the sweetcorn soup, spring rolls, egg fried rice, prawn tempura and pak Choi. I did order the crispy beef but it came out freezing cold, I was told they’re make me a fresh one and it never got brought out to me. The food did take a while to come out each time, it seems like they wait to bring out a lot of food at the same time but things end up getting cold or you end up waiting a long while. The drinks also took a long while to come out considering it was only cranberry juice from a carton (again the waited and did other tables at the same time) we were at least 30 mins in before the drinks came. It was not busy (max 4 other tables) and many other people were questioning how long everything was taking. I did enjoy the taste of each food item I ate, especially the prawn tempura, tasted so fresh. But the experience was let down by how slow the service was.”

“I came here for dinner with my fiance. It was a nice ambience. The staff were amazing. Can't expect less from japanese people who are well known for their hospitality. The quality of food was good, however, the taste was quite moderate. The wait time for dish to be served was quite adequate. Both of us probably cook similar cuisine at home. So we failed to call it mouthwatering. Both of us love asian cuisine so we thought of trying this place. The yaki soba was absolutely bland and we never had such a flavourless teriyaki chicken. Thus we decided not to order a dessert to avoid more disappointment in food. We felt probably we have some vital illness that we lost our tastebuds for some reason.”

“This place was generally good. Service was decent. The food presentation was definitely on the positive side. There were some dishes that we ordered (we went a la carte) that were a bit on the bland side and were a bit tasteless. Price wise, it wasnt too bad. We’re used to eating a lot, but as some of our party were not big eaters, we didnt go buffet style. The ambience of the place was good. All in all. Worth a visit”

“Great food, it does get busy so reservation is recommended. I've been a lot of time, they sometimes get dishes wrong in the all you can eat menu, but that often means you get to try something you might not of ordered lol. Only complaint is the chicken main courses, I'd say don't order them. Order another meat or veggie in it”
