About Pink Ladies Dessert

At 56 Manchester Rd, Pink Ladies Dessert is a cafe combining a bakery, dessert shop, and breakfast restaurant under one roof. The counter display case holds a rotating selection of cakes, including a pistachio option, while the wider menu runs from a Persian breakfast to a Full English and Eggs Benedict. Afternoon tea sets are also served, with a luxury version for two bringing cakes, pastries, sandwiches, bagels, and toasties to the table. Orders are taken by table service, and a sign at the counter notes that payment is cash only. The entrance is step-free for visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are available for families with young children. Dogs are welcome, and outdoor seating gives an option for eating outside. It opens daily, and reservations are recommended ahead of a visit. Milkshakes round out the menu with a choice of flavors.

Customer Review Summary

The luxury afternoon tea draws repeated praise, with reviewers describing homemade sponge cakes in flavors like salted caramel, pistachio, and cookies and cream alongside sandwiches, bagels, and toasties. Close behind, breakfast dishes earn consistent mentions, particularly the Persian breakfast, Eggs Benedict, and a large full English, along with the pistachio Persian princess dessert and a chocolate buttercream birthday cake described as beautifully decorated. Several note the staff as welcoming and attentive, and a few mention reasonable prices for the portions given. One reviewer, however, describes a more difficult visit, recounting being moved tables without apology after being seated, then discovering only at payment that the cafe is cash only, a fact not disclosed when the order was taken and only posted on a small sign at the counter, leading to a scramble to find a working cash machine. That same reviewer also noted a lack of vegan options and a posted 15 minute limit on tables ordering only coffee. Aside from this account, other reviewers describe returning repeatedly for birthdays and casual lunches, with one recalling a full birthday celebration built around the afternoon tea.

“honestly could not fault this place one bit. went for an afternoon tea for birthday celebrations and it was nothing short than outstanding, food was absolutely amazing, so fresh and cooked to perfection. the staff are all so welcoming and lovely and the atmosphere is so warming. would absolutely recommend to anyone for afternoon tea or just a casual lunch, drink stop. price is also so cheap for what you get and would be happy to actually pay more, so worth the money :) thankyou so much c”

“We were greeted by the waitress when we entered and shown to a table. Very quickly a lady who I presume was the owner came and moved us to another table. The reason given was that she wanted to keep the table that we had originally been seated at four of a party of 4 came in (there were only two of us). I didn’t have a problem with this but no apology was given and I felt that the waitress could have been properly informed about how the owner wished people to be seated beforehand to avoid this situation from arising. We came in for a coffee each. We had considered having food as well but the person I was with is vegan and there seem to be no vegan food options on the menu. Our order was taken, our coffees arrived and we did enjoy them. However when we went up to the counter to pay we found out that the cafe only accepts cash as payment. I had planned to pay with card. I said I would go to the nearest cash machine to get some money. This cash machine turned out to be out of order so I had to go and draw money out at the post office which took a while as there was a long slow moving queue. I returned and paid our bill. I pointed out to the owner that card is considered a standard payment method these days and if a business chooses not to accept card payment they should inform the customer before they order something. The owner pointed to a small sign on the counter that stated the cafe was cash only. The cafe was busy and we did not have a clear view of the counter from where we were sitting. Also as the cafe does table service we had no reason to go to the counter before paying. Therefore we did not see the sign. It was the owner who took our order and she also failed to point this out. This was an embarrassing situation to be in and it could have been avoided if the staff had been honest and transparent about the fact that they only accept cash when we entered. No apology was offered. There is also a sign in the cafe that states that if you are only ordering coffee you can only have a table for 15 minutes. I was not made to feel welcome, nor was the service good and I won’t be returning.”
